Adults Share Things We Achieve

Not going to lie, with school kicking off this week, and coaching volleyball, I’ve been a bit behind the gun in terms of catching up on all the sweet tunes dropping here and there. But, I saw this Adults jam hit, and I wasn’t going to let that pass by. A little roll in, a nice shouted sample, then the band rushes off, running full spring through this spirited burst of pop rock. You’ve settled into the joyous nature, then the 1:37 marker hits and the song turns, hitting even more furiously as it chases down that finish line, though still keeping that melody bobbing. The band will be dropping their debut, For Everything, Always, this October via Fika Recordings.

Cool Sounds Drop 6 or 7 More Video

First notes from Cool Sounds latest single definitely serve to remind us that the band has switched gears, digging out from the jangle pop side of the realm in order to give us a little more of a hip-shaking vibe. Pumping in a funky R&B groove right off the bat to set this song up is perfect, you’re instantly transported to a solid strut down the street, giving out high fives and hand shakes with confidence. Once the vocals kick to match up with the shuffling riffs, things continue to get funkier, almost spinning towards disco, albeit one with just a little bit of punk ethos thrown into keep the kids coming back. Add in that female vocal with its retro robotic nature and this song takes on futuristic and R&B and spins it into a new wile web. Like That will be out on October 7th via Chapter Music.

Peel Dream Magazine Announces Pad

With two striking releases on Slumberland, it’s high time Peel Dream Magazine go for the trifecta, and it looks like that’s on the agenda, as the band today announce Pad. That said, those looking for a repeat of early successes will find the sound’s pushing in an entirely different direction. There’s still that faint hint of a synthetic backbone, though it hangs as more of a backdrop on this first single. In exchange, we get something that feels a little bit like our own frolic in a world created by the artist; in a sense, it feels like an adventurous take on a symphony, adding a bit of playfulness to the art. Definitely will be interesting to hear how the rest of the effort shapes up; Pad drops via Slumberland/Tough Love on October 7th.

Winter Share Atonement (ft. Hatchie)

We had a feeling that Winter had something new brewing, and today the band announces What Kind of Blue Are You, and in doing so, builds on the hype by releasing a single with Samira and Hatchie uniting on vocals. There’s a heavy groove that rides the verses, giving this darkened acid wash to the dreamy notes Winter is known to craft. You’re seduced into the semi-primal groove, burrowing deep in the song’s emotional appeal. But, then you get spit right out as the chorus erupts in this hyper-joyous explosion; it’s clearly the song’s high-point, but I think it perfectly captures the mixture of vibes we’re to expect on this brand new LP. Pretty decent way to start off the album cycle, eh? What Kind of Blue Are You is out on October 14th via Bar/None Records.

2nd Grade Announce Easy Listening

Some album titles hit the nail right on the head, which appears to be the case with 2nd Grade and their new LP, Easy Listening. Don’t get me wrong, you can hear where those riffs could definitely get charged with power in the live setting, shaking the walls at your favorite venue. But, in the album presentation, the Philly outfit cherishes the pop side of their sound, softening the melody, while still hinting at a constant level of supreme cool. Hooks and soaring vocals are aplenty in this jam, so we’re more than assured the band will bring all that and more when the LP gets released; Easy Listening drops on September 30th via Double Double Whammy.

Harlan T Bobo Announces Porch Songs

I can be pretty picky about what I cover, particularly when it comes to the singer-songwriter genre; it’s got to be something really exceptional to capture me…like this new Harlan T. Bobo tune from his forthcoming LP. The majority of the tune is a heavy strum and Bobo’s voice, dominating. For me, what caught me was the 1.15 mark in the track; you can hear Harlan strain just a bit, adding a little imperfection and a little honesty to the songwriting, making it all the more endearing. Porch Songs, the new LP, will be out on August 5th via Goner Records.

Mo Troper Shares I Fall Into Her Arms

You’ve got to love short little ditties, and right on the heels of Tony Molina’s short pop song execution is Mo Troper. He’s announced MTV, his latest LP, and he’s done so with this tight little jangler, twisting these beautiful falling guitarmonies into heart-felt melodies. Mo’s voice on this go round feels a little more distinctive, but I think that adds to the charm, keeping a sort of lo-fi sensibility that allows all of us to maintain our cool, right? There’s a video version of the song HERE, but otherwise, you, like the rest of us, will have to wait until MTV drops on September 2nd via Lame-O Records.

The Reds Pinks and Purples Prep Still Clouds at Noon

Glenn Donaldson continues his remarkable songwriting prowess with yet another album for The Reds Pinks and Purples, before many of us have even gotten our hands on his last LP! Personally, the opening track on the forthcoming Still Clouds at Noon might be one of my favorite Glenn performances; the musical element is striking, setting this sort of somber tone that feels like a slow-paced time lapse video. Donaldson’s voice, always familiar, feels like its one of those timeless voices that makes you nostalgic for friends and memories, drawing you deep inside his songwriting. Still Clouds at Noon will be out digitally on Friday, but no physical version is planned at this point (unless, Glenn reads this and wants me to put it out!).

Slick New Tune From Jake Tittle

Jake Tittle is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter who has been making and recording music in the SoCal area for near on seven years at this point. Though you may not yet be familiar with Mr. Tittle, I am sure you will start giving him your attention after having a listen to his new song “Fair Warning”. I love his craft here as a songwriter who doesn’t simply strum a guitar and sing, but also offers some really slick backing beats to turn the song into much more of a summer jam. Give it a listen.

Jake Tittle has plans for a new full length album coming out hopefully later this summer.

Mamalarky Announce Pocket Fantasy

This snuck out yesterday, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t get behind this album announcement from Mamalarky. The band are constantly working, and it seems like that has led to a track that kind of unloads all the pressure of writing and recording by blasting out a joyous burst. Livvy’s riff work has this angular choppiness that feels like jumping about in your room, while the chorus just radiates an exhilarated bunch. You can see they’ve locked into that joy in the video as well, as the group are at their playful best throughout! If you’re digging it, Pocket Fantasy is out September 30th via Fire Talk.
