It’d be very easy for a band in Austin to slide into the traditional psychedelic path, as we’ve had the forefathers and modern torch-bearers, but I love how Marry Cherry never settled for that sound, despite being adjacent to the sound. They’ve been building their sound in a more pop broad sound for the last year or so, and perhaps with “New Direction” we finally get to the pinnacle of their sound. Those of you who love the cavernous worlds of acts like the Jesus and Mary Chain will find the band meeting up at the afterparty, only to venture off and hang with Primal Scream; I love how they’re building in these old school club sounds into their sets. Stoked to see where they go from here.
