System Exclusive Share Can’t Stand 4 It Video

Every time a new track comes out from the next System Exclusive record, it’s hard not to see how big this band would have been had they dropped a bit earlier. Working as a two piece, the pulse and groove of the latest single is quite infectious; the cymbal work and beat should have your toes tapping and your head bobbing as you weave through your day. Their guitar work growls, whilst channeling a dark meandering, akin to driving down the road into Twin Peaks. Ari Blaisdell’s vocal work continues to offer a solid performance with a comparison to Karen O not too far off as a descriptor; that said, Ari feels like a bit of street punk attached, which is a good thing. Their new LP Click will be out via Mt. St. Mtn. and Le Cepe Records on May 17th.

The Legends Share Secret Shine

Friday should be a day full of enjoyment, a celebration of working through the week and seeing a bit of rest on the horizon (if you’re working a tradition M-F). So, put on this track from the Legends, offering one of their first pieces of new music since 2020. There’s a spritely pulse to this, with dancing guitar lines jumping right through the speaker; put your arms above your head and kick your legs up, feel your body jump right into this song as you feel the freedom and bounce coursing through your veins. This track features Julia from Acid House Kings adding in some vocals, so double win for you!

Bobsled Team Share Waiting for You + Drop New Album

Over the years I’ve mentioned Belfast’s Bobsled Team quite frequently, and today we can rejoice as they’re sharing a new single in honor of release day for their new LP. This tune’s indicative of the breathing you can do amidst the whole of their record, as you can tell they didn’t rush to fill every crevice with noise and guitars, instead letting the melody float carefully. You’ll hear bending guitar notes working on a pounding drum beat, every musical note spent to accent the vocal pieces. Don’t get me wrong, as All the Flowers Bloom certainly has moments of energy like “Analita” or “Time Goes By,” but they definitely seem more thoughtful with their craft, and you’ll be the beneficiary. Another +/- Single from Further Afield

After a bit of an absence, +/- are right back in the thick of it, offering up another single from their forthcoming Further Afield LP. This one begins with an elaborated line that guitarist James took from his son as they played on a keyboard together; it matches up with some of the fatherhood themes that run their course in the track. As you listen, it feels light and instant, like you could easily wrap it up in 2 minutes, yet they choose to flesh it out, building this dreamy melodic bridge that fills the song’s center. Then it all circles back to the lighter moments, albeit with a little more space behind as opposed to the initial immediacy. Another single, another hit…Further Afield is out May 31st.

Cosmopaark Share Pure Intention Video

There’s something really soothing about the distinct styles that are present in this brand new Cosmopaark tune. When you hit the play button, your confronted with a light bit of post-punk guitars, toying with you as a snare softly rolls behind the buoyant vocals. As the bass begins to buzz beneath, you can tell things are going to switch it up, and they do, however briefly. That burst of noise that momentarily leaks through is the set up for the drop into the dreamy depths the French band take you down towards once you hit the 1 minute mark. The song returns to flirtatious pop feel, even building a bit of negative space that allows the guitar to dance and twirl about; they ride that moment out for a bit, circling back to win you with a blend of it all as the track draws to a close.

Goblin Daycare Share Liar Liar

Through the first few singles, I’ve been totally on board with Turkey’s Goblin Daycare, and as of this new single, that’s not changing. There’s some sonic similarities to what folks are doing in the US scene, like the Oh Sees, but what I enjoyed here was that they kind of peeled away layers of the sonic onion, getting down to the most frantic core of the track. You’ll hear those jittering guitars knifing their way through here, but the drum work is seemingly sedated (in sound only); it leaves plenty of room for the vocals to crawl through in this goblin-esque manner. It’s like they’re begging you to dig deeper into the genre, and I’m totally here for it. They’ll release Agitpop Hotline on May 17th via Dedstrange.

Premiere: The Ar-Kaics Share Cornerstone

For all the ferrymen along the river of psychedelia, I wouldn’t be lying if I said things had perhaps traveled a bit too far into the realm of the mundane. That said, I love the flare and style that the Ar-Kaics bring to the fold; they almost seem like their more enlightened by the annals of classic rock as opposed to the tethered nostalgia of psych rock. You can hear the need to get down and boogie in their craft, with guitar crisp and steamy, packing a huge punch that gives off a bit of sweaty swagger. You’ll find that the coolness of the vocals brings in a refreshing touch, almost as if they embody a wolf howling at the moon before settling into a little soulful blast. Patrick Fugit can’t wait for you to hear those incendiary riffs that run throughout the whole of See the World on Fire; it drops on May 3rd via Feel It/Dig/Bachelor Records.

Lightheaded Offer Bright Happy Girls

In a few weeks, Lightheaded will release their much anticipated Combustible Gems, so they celebrate today with a doozy of a pop hit. At first, they come at you with a bit of psychedelic americana, punching through to offer a bit of bravado and gall that one might not expect. But, as folks have come to hear, they don’t stick their for too long, turning the corner into this incredibly charming melodic lead, emphatically driven home with some enthusiastic backing vocals. This song is filled with contrasts, whether its juxtaposed jangling riffs or stylistic switches within the song’s core, it’s all set against each moment to maximize every happy emotion in the world. Combustible Gems drops May 17th via Slumberland Records.

Bad Moves Return!!!

It’s been a few years since we last heard from DC’s Bad Moves, but nearly five years since they’ve dropped a proper LP. Word has it that they’re back in the studio finishing things up for a Fall relase, but have offered up another little teaser to leave breadcrumbs for the folks like me (and Ed in Cleveland!). This tune’s got everything you came to love about the band, sharp biting lyricism and hooks galore, wrapped up nicely with a chorus you can scream at the top of your lungs. This song’s even got some call-and-response vocal punches, embracing the joyousness the quartet has always brought to the live setting, so its great to hear it bleeding through in their latest recording. Rock n’ roll was supposed to be fun, and even when its got something to say, no one seems to enjoy themselves giving rock their all like Bad Moves. Hopefully more news on the new album soon!

Another Jim Nothing Single

Let the old inbox get me down, and in there somewhere was lurking a fresh new tune from Jim Nothing…yet another single in their post In the Marigolds run. There’s something in the work on this song that reminds me of a fuzzier version of Los Campesinos; it has the same endearing quality that came, particularly when you get some of those faint backing vocals into the picture…or maybe it was that opening “wooh” that set me off. The riffs are heavier for this lot, even with the cascading lead that twists its knife through the center; those riffs allow the pace to kind of settle and mellow before you, encouraging you to sink into the depths of their latest bop!
