Joel Cusumano Announces Waxworld LP
The Bay Area music scene is better because of the presence of Joel Cusumano, as he’s played in acts such as Sob Stories and R.E. Seraphin. But, he’s out on his own with his first solo LP, a record which came after Cusumano dealt with debilitating OCD. That process informed the writing process, at least in terms of the subject matter, where the record deals more with Joel’s “growing unease in a world of unrelenting flux.” Still, Joel’s not going to shy away from including hooks and fun in his music, as you can see and hear in the video below. Thumping drums and a guitar that seems to pulse with a new wave personality create a sentiment that seems almost celebratory, so we’ll jump on and cheers Joel as we await Waxworld; it’s out on October 24th via Dandy Boy Records.

Her work is all about musical quilting; she carefully layers texture after texture in a synthetic structure, and this go round it’s a delicate bit of bedroom pop. The negative space on the track perfectly opens the tune for the vocals, allowing them do drift in and out of the musical cracks and filling them with magical melodies. Second Nature is slated for a release early next year, so expect us to return with a handful more singles for you!
