Stephen’s Shore Share Close to a Dream

We’re a little over a week until the release of the new EP from Swedish pop group Stephen’s Shore, and with that proximity, we’re offered another teaser tune to entice us all. On the earlier tracks from the Green EP, the band have had their spritely bounce intact, but, things take a turn on this new track. The rhythm section still offers up the toe-tapping beat, but there’s a haziness to the guitar work, matched by the a thick coat on the vocals, almost referencing a hint of psychedelia; this all comes to head with the closing breakdown the group use to wrap up the town. It’s a nice little plot twist in their songwriting, illustrating that the Green EP has them working at peak songwriting craft, and we shan’t shy away from that. The EP drops on April 15th via Meritorio Records.

Fresh Announce Raise Hell LP

If you haven’t been listening to UK punks Fresh, then what have you been doing? I was stoked today to wake up and see that the band had just announced their brand new Raise Hell LP with a rocking new single. Kathryn Woods dominates the track, giving this powerful performance linked to the feeling of having a “mind that’s both under-stimulated and over-stimulated at the same time.” I love the way the bouncing keyboard sets up the huge drop in of heavy riffs to match up with the melodic delivery of Woods in the chorus. I can tell this one’s going to rip. Raise Hell will be out in July via Specialist Subject/Get Better Records.

Piney Gir Announces Alchemy Hand EP

I’m finding it hard to turn away from the latest Piney Gir single, signaling a brand new EP is on the horizon. For starters, Piney as a songwriter, and within this new single, changes direction as quickly as you’re settled. Listen to the first 55 seconds or so, relishing the pseudo Jenny Lewis stylings at play, but then suddenly it’s all switched up, giving the song more lift. You get similar moments in the four minutes below, moving and switching notes, stretching the sound into something that can easily stand besides the work of Aldous Harding or Cate Le Bon. Sub*T Share New Single, Asterisk

Fire Talk Records has been doing some great stuff with their Open Tab project, giving us new tunes and cool interviews with lesser known bands. Today they’re sharing a brand new track from Sub*T, a New York duo bringing up this fuzzy indie rock that’s high on hooks. There’s something about their work that just feels anthemic and intimate simultaneously, like you could singalong while jumping on your bed, or bang your head in the live setting. If you’re in the need for driving pop rock that’s filled with harmonies and catchy lines, then you need go no further than this outfit…and don’t forget to check out some of their other hits…it’s about discovery afterall!

Lunar Isles Shares Bloom + Drops Visitor EP

It’s easy to get caught up in the American indie scene, for obvious reasons. But, when it comes to dreamy indie pop, you’ve got to step outside that to discover the best Monday gems, like South Korea’s Lunar Isles. The group just dropped their Visitor EP, and this last single is definitely worthy of a few minutes of your time. I love the steadying of the musical elements; they seem satiated, not looking for more, just happy with their existence. That patience and self-awareness allows the vocals to really charm, matching the mood with this affected dreaminess that just caresses your ear caverns. There’s some slight lifts in the guitar work, making sure the song isn’t merely satisfied with being, and that adds just enough to make the song rewarding on repeat listens.

The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness Drop New Single

Are the Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness one of the better kept secrets in the indie pop realm? Well, let’s hope not, as you’d be missing out on some great tunes if you skip over the band; start by going back to last years Songs from Another Life. But, alas, its Bandcamp Friday, so the band have dropped this wonderful new single to get inside your ear. I think the group open up the tune with this really soft crystalline guitars, strumming over each other. But, drums kick in slightly, and there’s this brief uplifting moment that immediately takes the track to another level. It’s just a tease, as the chorus really shows where the band’s melodic play shines right to your heart. Don’t sleep on this one.

Flight Mode Announce New EP

Flight Mode won me over with the Texas ’98 EP, which had some nostalgic moments, both for the songwriter, and myself, someone who was living in Texas in 1998. Now, the Oslo band revisit another place in their own history, looking back on the Torshov neighborhood in 2005. Musically, the songwriting is a little more expansive on this first single, perhaps pensive; it feels like something you’d find on a Jade Tree sampler, or a B-side of a Joan of Arc record. I love how the gentle vocals get a heavier backing vocal to give the song just the slightest edge…the faintest, as this track is too pretty to break up. The Torshov ’05 EP is dropping May 6th on Sound as Language.

Night Palace Share Strange Powers Visualizer

This weekend you’ll be able to pick up the debut long player from Night Palace, but why not coast into your listen with one final visual experience to seduce you into the group’s sound. Interestingly, the visual accompaniment has this more bubbling psychedelia, while the track definitely walks the line of a more playful brand of indiepop. But, the sound is definitely filled to the brim with textures, which makes it all the more enchanting, elevating the song beyond the stellar vocal performance from Avery Draut. Pretty sure you could spend your entire day spinning about beneath that heavenly voice, but don’t take my word for it…sample a few more tunes then grab Diving Rings come this Friday!

CIEL Share Fine Everything

CIEL share their new track this week, and with that, they’ve announced a new EP on the horizon…but if you’re listening closely, you’ll also notice a more direct punch to their sound. This track doesn’t feel shrouded in that borderline territory between post-punk and dream pop; it’s a straight ahead ripper, albeit one punctuated by this incredible rhythmic pulse that helps cast the song’s hook deep inside your brain. They’re still hitting you with a nice bit of noise, but they’re not shying away from tying it in with melody and classic pop sensibility. This is our first taste, but already we’re thirsting for more from the Brighton bunch.

A Sinclair Shares We Got Time

Our old pal A. Sinclair has been on this site more or less since we began over a decade ago, albeit in various different names. Still, I feel like the last few years he’s really hitting his stride with his songwriting, perhaps hitting a huge peak with this new track. Built upon a piano backbone, Aaron stretches his notes perfectly; the production makes it seem like he’s striking a fragile figure out somewhere on some Texas highway. Each chorus gets a little volume push, highlighting the bend of the guitar and the internal melody, meeting up with a nice little stomp from the percussion section. It all crashes in just after the 2 minute mark, before retreating back the verse/chorus. Track out now courtesy of Mr. Pink Records.
