This past Friday our good friends in Big Bill released the stellar new single, “Coma,” which we wanted to delay so as to offer you up something delicious on Monday morning. While Eric Braden’s distinctive vocal delivery is omni-present, the mono-syallbic burst at the 37 second mark (and repeated later) is a sure-fire hook. What’s most impressive to me is how furious the band seems to be here; they’re playing with this angular jackhammering, more emphatic and rocking than ever before. All of this gets tied together with time changes matching up with Eric’s syllable play in the lyrics…one of the band’s signatures. Don’t miss out on this Jon Lovitz approved hit!

Keron Shares Alphanumeric Single

There was something about the immediacy of the latest single from Georgia’s Keron Robinson (or Keron). Punching in almost immediately with this heavy voice that seemed to be hiding beneath the mix sucked me right into the tune; I felt like I was being invited to a secret party filled with careful nuanced melodies and subtle pop hooks. I think the chorus really solidified my love for this tune; there was something about it that just felt huge and powerful, despite being a little softer in its delivery. Keron will be releasing a new record later this year, so keep your ears peeled for more hits!

Pearie Sol Announces Real Happiness

If you ever caught DC’s Gauche live, then you likely got a glimpse at Pearie Sol, the man behind the keyboards, but now with Real Happiness, we can peel back the skin and see inside the man! This song rides a wonky bounce, like a frantic train terrorizing its patrons as it speeds down the tracks led by the maniacal engineer. Pearie Sol howls at the passengers, matching the song’s natural propulsion with his own exuberant vocal display. But, don’t let the crazed joy of this tune be your sole memory; the song is a call to arms for all of us to embrace what’s real, what’s before us…real sadness and real pain and real joy and real happiness and everything in between! Celebrate something real; the album drops on June 18th via HHBTM!

New Single & BEER From Dentist

Asbury Park based band Dentist has long been a running staple here on the pages of your friendly ATH music blog. The band has always dropped great music and strived to work their asses off, all while doing things the right way and staying true to their sound and message. In typical fashion, the band couldn’t simply drop this great new single “Let Me Let Go” and call it a day… NO, the band got together with New Jersey based brewing company Last Wave Brewing to pair the track with what sounds like a delicious New England-style India Pale Ale. For those of us who don’t live in the NJ area, the new single and accompanying video will have to suffice. It’s pretty rad.

Dentist will be releasing a new LP of material sometime later this year on Cleopatra Records. Now to see if I can get my hands on some of this beer.

Quivers Share Chinese Medicine Video

At this moment, I’m not sure anyone’s writing timeless pop music quite like Quivers; Sam Nicholson has dialed into peak songwriting, and with his band’s arrangements, they’re crafting some truly unforgettable tunes. This latest single opens much the way you’d expect, with semi-wayward jangles and Nicholson’s voice; the steady beat keeps things moving, giving the listener this undeniable connectedness. Soon, a synth note twinkles in the far off night sky, matched by some very faint backing vocals that build towards a burst…a shooting star of pop falling across the song’s skyline. While all this goes on, sit back and watch the great video animated by Jordan Thompson of the Ocean Party; I’m a big fan of the line work there. But, the song’s not done, as the vocals swell, joined by more of a backing chorus, letting the guitars ring silent as the song fades into a tinkering piano line that eventually disappears into the world. Just another string pop number from the forthcoming Golden Doubt, out on June 11th via Ba Da Bing/Bobo Integral/Spunk.

Teddy Glass Drop Ultra Violet

Friday’s are great for new music, and what’s better than new music from your friends? Well, here we are with an upbeat number from our friends over in Teddy Glass, which features Peter from Daphne Tunes and Josh from ATH alum Marmalakes. They’ve crafted this tune with a little spin on their sound, adding a more lively groove to Peter’s great guitar play; it almost has an R&B pop groove working through it, particularly when he stretches his voice to hit those high notes. If you’re in the mood for a nice little smooth pop jam to slide into that breakfast booth with ya, then look no further! They’ll be celebrating the release of his new single with a live performance on their Insta!

Bnny Signs to Fire Talk, Readies New Single

Seeing as we’re in the mood for hot labels and hot tracks, lets look over to Fire Talk Records, the powerhouse label giving us the likes of Dehd, PACKS, Deeper and more…and speaking of more, today they announce the singing of Bnny. The band is the project of Jess Viscius, who sort of stumbled into the group after someone left behind a guitar at her apartment in Chicago. Musically, she’s crafting this brand that’s somewhere in between the Cate Le Bon and Sharon Van Etten, with these sort of smoky pipes and snaking guitar psychedelic guitar lines. Apparently this song’s going to be a big deal, as its featured prominently in the final season of Shrill (out Friday!).

Pink Chameleons Share Slow Me Single

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the new Pink Chameleons was a nod to 90s rock n’ roll styles; I mean, you can’t run from those opening riffs! But, as evidenced by the brash strut of the saxophone and the effects of the vocals, you can tell the band aren’t here to rehash anything in particular; they’re building their own sound, something akin to what leader Paltsa-Kai calls “arty-psych.” Indeed you can hear that blending of sounds as those thundering riffs crash into the underwater vocals, like being tossed and turned in the undercurrent of the sea, flipping you this way and that…musically speaking of course. Taking such an approach will surely gift listeners a creative listen when the group drop their forthcoming Peace & Love LP via Soliti on May 21st!

Cozy Slippers Drop Brand New Single

The last we heard from Seattle’s Cozy Slippers they were dropping the A Million Pieces 7′ for the esteemed Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten…and they pop up out of nowhere today with a brand new single of bouncing pop rock, at least on the A-side. “When Will When Come” is this infectious pop tune of driving rhythm and soaring vocals from Sarah and Barbara; they use a semi-dreamy style and fuse it with a whole lot of bop. But, flip to “Be Alone With Me” and they blend in this rad college rock feel; I kind of get classic Juliana Hatfield vibes on it, and I don’t mind that one bit. Really great to see the band up and running, so lets hope we get more from them soon!

The Telephone Numbers Share Kaleidoscope

Our list of albums to look forward towards as the year ramps up includes this forthcoming LP from The Telephone Numbers. While the track may feature the slightest of acoustic jangles, its the work behind Thomas Rubenstein’s voice that really elevates the song. String arrangements are the most obvious, like a hand from the the heavens sprinkling magical melodic dust, sweeping across the song to coat it in this textural warmth. Behind that light jangle you can also hear another guitar line, sort of dancing a jig around the front of the mix, but it adds punctuation to both vocals and guitar notes, giving Thomas a pop hero’s welcome. The Ballad of Doug is out June 25th via Meritorio/Paisley Shirt.
