New Single and Video From The Rich Hands

374375_590472457642909_1132971821_nSan Antonio based The Rich Hands came onto our radar just about a year ago and we’ve done our best to support them ever since.  Today the band have two bits of news for their fan base that we’re excited to share with you guys.  The first is a new video for their latest single called “I Get By” which features the guys out on the road, playing shows, and having a general good time of it.  Of course that garage rock sound with some fun pop elements thrown in is still there and is as great as ever.  Once you’ve watched that a few times, check out some upcoming tour dates for the band so you crazy kids can see them on the road.  Follow the jump for both video and tour dates.

The Allah Las Return with New Tunes

allahI was in love with the first release from Allah-Las; it combined elements of California sun with psychedelic shades, all the while holding on to some solid hooks. It looks like the band is about to take a very similar approach, though this newest tune seems to move further into the past, musically.  There’s some swagger remaining, but this song displays more of a devotion to the delivery of the vocals, which serve as the song’s key focus.  You can grab this on the band’s upcoming 7″, and it’s also likely to appear on their Worship the Sun LP, which is slated for a fall release.

Austin Spotlight: Meet Southern Boutique

southernThe introduction of this outfit comes with a bit of sadness, as Southern Boutique taking a full-time role means the dissolution of one of our favorite acts, Tiger Waves.  The former act crafted these incredible pop soundscapes with warm harmonies, often employing multiple layers and sounds that made their music more dyanmic than most.  But, in the case of Southern Boutique, those pieces still remain, albeit more fine-tuned than ever before.  This is their first official single, and it employs the same spectacular melodies that made them so endearing.  I have no doubt that with a renewed focus, the group will blossom into one of the most unique acts in Austin, winning over everyone. You can expect to hear more from the band when they release their new album later this summer.  Grab their new two song single HERE for the NYP payment method; it’s worth a solid donation.

Pop Number from Truthers

truthersWhen I first pressed play on this track from Truthers, I fully expected it to be a slow piece that unfolded over time.  But, the drums started pounding in the distance, and the track picked up a slight step, giving it this definite bounce that’s made it worthy of repeated listens today.  Once it gets going, it never really lets go either, triumphantly bursting towards the end before the tape starts to bend and stretch in your speakers. This little ditty will be released by new label, Glad Tidings from New York, so give it a listen and get your hands on this limited release.

More Pop from Beaty Heart

beatyHave you not heard enough of my adoration for Beaty Heart? Well, if you have, I’m ignoring you and posting yet another enjoyable track.  While the band’s used some odder time structures and rhythms in their past singles, this is perhaps the most up-front approach to the band’s songwriting.  Those of you who miss the innocence and joy of early Animal Collective will definitely find this track right up your alley.  It’s got the same sense of playfulness, giving the song a certain flavor that will enable you to bob up and down for the rest of the afternoon.  Their debut album, Mixed Blessings, will be out on June 2nd.

More New Music from We Can’t Enjoy Ourselves

857885_635641569842995_1298662364_oJust last week I brought you a new tune from We Can’t Enjoy Ourselves, who’ve been hard at work in the study to manage some songs for a release later this year.  They’ve sent us yet another tune, which is what we’re offering up below.  This new tune seems to show a bit of a different approach to songwriting, as they even declare that “this is not a rock song,” meaning that it happens to be something more; it is.  The vocal delivery is very much like spoken word, which has been popularized as of late by bands like Parquet Courts.  It adds an interesting dynamic, which ultimately showcases the band working around traditional pop constructs.  Just another reason to be excited about this Tuesday.

New Music from Bored Nothing

boredA few years back, a friend of mine posted this great list of rising acts out of Australia; it included acts like Pop Singles, Royal Headache and more, but one of the ones I really gravitated towards was that of Bored Nothing.  I’ll admit that part of it was the style of recording, but another part of my enjoyment was the resemblance to a world where emo music met Elliott Smith, with just a splash of bedroom stylings.   Still, if you’re in touch with what’s going on today in the Aussie scene, then you can definitely hear where the music of Bored Nothing fits in. Give a listen to this brand new track to see if it’s up your alley.

Amen Dunes Ready Another Single

amenDamon McMahon’s Amen Dunes project is on a huge role right now.  He’s prepping the release of his new record, Love, and it seems with each new single that he brings to the table, there’s something different going on in the music, yet it’s all pretty intoxicating.  This jam starts all with a bit of a ramshackle opening, almost like a post-punk rocker, but then it unfolds into a more spiritual piece of noise folk.  I like a little diverstiy in a good album, so when Sacred Bones releases Love on May 13th, we’re probably going to rejoice with how each song offers us something different.

Smooth Listening from Childhood

childhoodI felt like Monday was a really slow day for new music news, but luckily this dreamy track from Childhood made it into my inbox.  The construction of the song is in line with a lot of the music coming out right now, carefully crafting this swelling pop song that rises and falls all over the place.  Me? I’m just in love with the way that the vocals come across.  They’re delivered almost effortlessly, allowing with this gentle affectation that really soothes the listener.  This song is the first listen from their much anticipated debut album, which should arrive at some point during the summertime.

New Indiepop Delights from Heathers

a0468958385_10I first heard about Heathers through our friends in the excellent band Literature, so with their recommendation I gladly hopped on board with the LA band.  They just released a rad new single for their song “Fear,” which is definitely one of those jams I’d like you to spend some of your time with.  The guitars have more of a driving rhythm to them, as opposed to the common indiepop jangle, which allows for an interesting juxtaposition with the warm tones of the vocals.  I particularly like the way the vocals come across during the chorus.  Head over to their site and pick up your own copy of this limited 7″.
