Wussy Share Inhaler Video

If you’ve been paying attention, Cincinnati Ohio is shaping up to be one of the best listens this year, and this new single just reaffirms my belief in that. When it begins, you’re thrust into this expansive ride along a cavernous bit of brooding indie rock; the vocals are presented lightly, like they’ve hitched a ride on the growl of the guitar beneath, aided by the percussive propulsion. Lisa gets the frontperson role this go-round, but at the 1:44 mark, she’s joined, adding a bit of ramshackle noise to the tune. The vocals are working against each other, kind of muddying things in the best fashion, and then they clear…and the track rides out on the road again, waiting for Lisa to take the rains. Back and forth, back and forth, perfecting the duality of sounds makes this new Wussy single one worth cranking up on your next road trip. They release Cininnati Ohio on November 15th via Shake It Records.

Dreamcoaster Share Don’t Lie to Me

Dreamcoaster released their So Long EP this past Spring, and today, they’ve offered up a nice new ditty to satiate your pop tastes on a Friday. This song reminds me of the early work of Luna, hanging on the edges of post-punk, but more interested in the melody than the pulse or noise. A mixture of male/female vocals offers up the perfect contrast, which spreads the melody across your room; they almost seem to stutter right before the chorus too, maximizing every sugary morsel you’re craving. If you love this tune (of course you do!), then please go revisit their So Long EP while you’re at it!

Sea Lemon Shares Sweet Anecdote

Over the last couple of years, Sea Lemon has been a rising star in the scene; she’s popped up here on ATH and even the hitmakers over at GvsB have backed her work. Yesterday while we were filling kids with candy, she dropped a brand new treat, and you’ve got to slide right into this tune. It’s a style that will easily get filed under dream pop, playing adjacently to acts like Beach House or Winter, so you know the style is something built for us all. I love where voice hangs, just muddying it up next to the wash of slow churning percussion and synthetic washes; it kind of feels built for rainy days in the songwriter’s own Seattle.

Crank Up Drag Me Under from Velociraptor

Friday has me all up in my pop feelings; I’m just wanting to have a little bit of fun today, bounce around with my kids on their post-Halloween high. We’re kicking it around the house, and I’m cranking this through the speakers, as Velociraptor just bring the hooks. You’ll probably make some connections to the last Strokes record, and if I’m being honest, I don’t mind that one bit; it’s got a little bit of nostalgia, a little bit of cockiness in its presentation. Crank it all the way, particularly when you hit the chorus with the band, and you’re going to be spinning in your room like my little kids are right now. Let’s have some fun, and if you want more, be sure to check out the group’s Computer Future LP, which drops today!

Whalers Return with Love & Drugs

Our early days as a blog had lots of coverage of Austin act, Whalers, but as life goes on, folks get busy…though that doesn’t mean the band haven’t been sprinkling the odd show and track into the ether. But, today, they officially return with a smoldering bit of indie rock, and we’re stoked to hear from the group again. They set the song up carefully, letting a little guitar line dangle and dance around with the vocals; they add in a little textural ambiance, waiting for the drums to pick up the pace. From there, the tune picks up speed, much like one would expect from the narrative of the lyrics, when love and drugs take over a relationship; you’re caught up and swept away by the swagger and swing that drives you towards the end!

Delivery Prepare Force Majeure

We love the Melbourne music scene, and Delivery are definitely an act we’re keen on, especially as they prepare to bring out their new LP, Force Majeure in the new year. Their latest single embraces a bit of a punk rock ethos, though they don’t shy away from the anthemic hook, which is what keeps me thinking of them as a warmer version of the Donnas…and I mean that as the best compliment, like ever. I’m also loving how they’re reveling in their work, with this big old breakdown that finds them stomping and jamming to the single’s close. Look out for the new Force Majeure on January 17th via Heavenly Recordings.

Prism Shores Announce Out From Underneath

Meritorio Records have been one of the most consistent labels in my life the last few years; this year alone I’ve bought records from SadEyed Beatniks, Best Bets and am hoping to get that Jim Nothing record soon. But today, the label announced the signing and release of a new LP from Prism Shores. The Montreal act is new to me (shame on me, I know), and I was almost instantly hooked. There’s this lurking familiarity I haven’t quite placed yet, and perhaps you can hear it yourself, but it’s this steady pop bounce that feels like you’re a punk mixologist, fusing the Red Pinks and Purples softness with a little bit of a harder jangling sound. Sharp and comforting, I’ve had this tune on all morning long. Out From Underneath drops the day after my January 16th birthday in 2025, so if you want to get me a present, you know what to do.

Boyracer Share Ode to Graeme Downes

If you don’t know Graeme Downes, well, I can’t help you there. But, maybe by turning on this new single from Boyracer you’ll be able to get the gist of why the songwriter is held in such high regard…enough to warrant an ode of sorts. Musically, the band have tuned down their energy here, and I mean that in the best way; they’re still manage to have an understated jangle and a sublime rhythm section, but it very much feels like Stew and company have embarked on the ballad route for their latest single. Riley throws in some velvety backing vocals throughout, maximizing the lure of the melodic tootsie roll at the center of the tune. Seaside Riot is out via Emotional Response this Friday!

Opera Share Forget Single

A new label and a new band get highlighted in this here post; you’ve got Broken Palace Records, which was started by members of Stray Fossa, plus Opera is a new act popping up in the Boston scene. When I pressed play, I was definitely drawn to the brooding nature, setting up a shadowiness that achieves the perfect juxtaposition with the vocals. Those vocals sparkle at first, little glimmers of light, but once the groove settles they begin to shine, providing this lightness to the sound that could easily be spun into a huge pop hit for the masses. Keep your eyes on the group, as they have an EP on the way, and congrats to the new label!

Assistant Share Song for Jil

After having been away from one another, Assistant have returned in the last few years with a flutter of activity, and there’s another LP on the very near horizon. Their latest tune, a trickling pop ode to songwriter Jonathan’s mom, is the perfect appetizer for Wednesday pop musings. At times, there’s hints of bossanova, though it would also be easy to kind of hear how their softness fits into the modern realm of indiepop. Still, listen closely at the beginning as the group undertakes their own sparklier version of the Clientele, creating a landscape painting with their musicality. Their new LP, Certain Memories, will be available on November 17th via the good folks at Subjangle.
