As we change into the seasons and the end of another year of reflection, the introverted music begins to brim with emotion within, thus falling in love with this new Florist single was made easy. Emily Sprague’s vocals always feel comforting, but the way they sort of roll in step with the percussion adds this seamlessness that continues illustrates the tightness in the group’s craft. Plus, as a human who dabbles in writing about music, you’re going to be hard-pressed to find a lyrical line that encompasses that concept more than “I just want music in my life/I just want us to sing along.” Pretty special line from a continuously special lot; their single brought to you by Double Double Whammy.

Naked Roommate Share Broken Whisper

There’s a lot of anticipation for the forthcoming Naked Roommate record, at least over on our end of things. The feeling of this record is a little brighter, if you’re going off the singles, and this latest track definitely feels like a huge summer block party. Utilizing horns and snapping percussive elements, they lock into this playful groove that feels like a boogie-down barbecue, bumping the joyousness when the whole gang joins in for the vocal work that they drop right in our lap. Summer may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean you and your friends can’t have a helluva time listening to the Pass the Loofah; it drops on October 25th via Trouble in Mind Records.

Holding Hour Share Can I Leave Me Too Single

Des Moines outfit Holding Hour have been offering up these little gems over the past few years, and I’ve really loved diving into their fresh single. Personally, I love when there are two distinctive musical narratives running through a track, working against each other, yet intertwining so seamlessly; it allows the duo to build this textured density that gives all of their work a heavy emotional weight. Lyrically, the track, with trading vocal roles, takes on the subject of admitting your faults in a relationship, though not quite embracing your own role, as you seek to escape your own shortcomings. Continue to love the world these two are building.

Wolfschmidt Shares ATM + Drops New EP

A couple of weeks ago I brought you an introduction to Sweden’s Wolfschmidt, or so I’d like to think. Today, I’m here to share another rad track from their fresh as a daisy Cosmic Joke EP. This tune pummels your ears with these sharp walls of angular noise, hurtling them towards you like Zeus and his trusty lightning bolts, hitting you again and again. But, with all that noise and driving rhythmic rise and fall, there’s a central voice that continues to let you fall in love; the vocals are huge, retreating when they needed to and belting at the top of the mix when needed. You’re definitely going to enjoy a good listen to Cosmic Joke; it’s available for jamming right now!

Joyer Share Glluu Video

While the previous Joyer singles have seen the band dabbling in bits of shoegaze, it seems they’re new song has been influenced by a lot of the peers they’re about to tour with, like Wishy and Horse Jumper of Love. This one is a quiet bit of vocals and intricate guitar pieces, and while there’s a slight percussive bit, it hangs far in the distance, as the rhythm is mostly worked through by overlapping vocal harmonies. And, despite the pretty nature of the single, the group just can’t help themselves, peeling back the curtains for a wash of noise to close the tune out. Their new EP, I See Forward and Back, will be out next Friday via Hit the North.

MOMI Share Spring in Reverse + Release MOMI001

Thanks to all the time I’ve spent with the recent Dummy album, my worlds just seem to be mixing like one of those psychedelic light shows they employ at Levitation; just like this new MOMI tune. The Sydney based duo are blending synthetics with a warbling wash of strange pop. There are moments when the tune drifts into this air indie rock, while other moments it feels like some sampled break-beat induced pop tune, mysteriously drawing you in with its whimsy. We’re at a place where folks are pushing their tastes into one striking world, and in doing so, we keep being given the gifts like the whole of this MOMI001 LP.

Curling Drop New Single

Admittedly, this new Curling single’s been out for a week or so, but there’s definitely no reason to skip over this striking A side single, and it’s accompanying B-side. Their style on this single hits at sort of a mixture of softened indie rock, though spun with a certain sense of longing that’s super thrilling; there’s something about it that feels very late 90s, like a lot of bands stepping out of those post-emo shadows into more ornate indie rock. Listen for those really crisp high notes that span throughout various moments on the track, and each time it hits, I’m just crushed. The new single comes at you via Royal Oakie.

Sassyhiya Announce Take You Somewhere

Fresh off of the catchiness of “Kristen Stewart,” London’s Sassyhiya return with the announcement of their brand new LP, Take You Somewhere. They jump right back into the joy of life with another infectious number, teasing you with noise before bouncing into the upbeat jangling that sets up the vocal work. Those vocal notes seem to ride on the crests of the rhythm section, going up and down as the track pitches back and forth, though the second foray into the verse seems a bit softer tonally. You should definitely have Take You Somewhere on your radar, as it drops on November 8th via Skep Wax.

The Convenience Share Two New Singles

New Orleans outfit The Convenience are back with two fresh tracks that definitely have piqued our interest this morning. On one hand, they take a page from acts like The Embarassment or Omni with “Routiner”, stretching out jagged riffs and creative rhythms into a post-punk vibe that’s balances between frantic and pensive. They flip the script for “Postcard,” which features some great fiddle work from Max of Lawn; the chorus in this one definitely hits home, feeling like the best moments of some of our favorite Aussie bands. Little bits of buzzsaw creep in, filling out the backdrop, going beyond the basics. Both tracks are available today courtesy of Winspear.

Trauma Ray Share Spectre

When looking back at this year’s albums, trying to figure out what will wrap up the Best of the Year lists, I’m hoping that this new Trauma Ray LP ends up on a lot of lists. This new single builds quietly, creeping along in the shadows with this slowcore styling. Suddenly, it erupts and drops in this block of noise, billowing through your speakers, and with the appropriate volume, rattling the inside of your house. It’s both quiet and loud, and always moving and morphing, which I adore as a listener. You’re really going to want to grab a copy of Chameleon, out October 25th via Dais.
