There’s just something about the songs Aramis Johnson writes for Enumclaw that have the perfect balance between emotional indie rock and punchy rock. Their latest single, accompanying the announcement of a new album and their singing to RFC, encompasses that tightrope act, walking between these thoughtful moments that would fit on any modern playlist, all before bursting into these riff-oriented crashing waves; it forces you to find your footing emotionally, while also indicating the joyous nature that coincides with Johnson’s songwriting. Home in Another Life will drop on August 30th.

Nightshift Share Phone Single

It really is beginning to sound like Nightshift are about to drop one of the great albums of the year, particularly when you indulge yourself in this fresh track. The tune’s got a bit of melancholy from the string arrangements, setting up the the tempo to move along casually in the verses. That casual nature allows for a sort of graceful sway, played into by the delivery of the vocals. But, there are some more energetic punches for the chorus where they deliver the line “better off without/better off with you,” reminiscent of something you’d have heard on a Life Without Buildings tune. Homosapiens will be out July 26th via Trouble in Mind Records.

Ocelot Shares Brand New Single

We can always count on our friends Soliti to turn us on to great new stuff coming out of Finland , mostly because they’re the ones releasing the aforementioned “great new stuff.” Today, for instance, they bring about this dreamy new single from Helsinki’s Ocelot; they’ve been quiet since their 2022 debut, so hopefully this brings us promise of more tunes to come. I love the way it works with this incredible beat underneath; the guitar slides up and down, just as the drums snap, all of it working under this intoxicating groove. In the vocals, you get this sort of reserved calm, at times moving into a whisper that exposes just a hint of intimacy between artist and listener. Personally, there’s these great little nuanced moments too, little noise trinkets that sneak in from time to time, popping up to drag you beneath the song’s surface. Enjoy.

Pop Filter Share Life Downstream

After releasing last year’s Cono, I’ll be honest and admit that I didn’t expect to hear back from Pop Filter so soon. Every member of the group has various projects constantly in the works, so it’s great to see them back with a brand new single so soon. This go round, the band are locked into a steady groove that plays off light jangling guitar licks and a wobbling bit of keys that hang in the background. You’ll find the group playing with a bit more bite too, and you can hear the first glimpse when there’s a punching six seconds of guitar around the 1 minute mark; it sets you up for a full on rock n’ roll freakout that closes the track out. Golomb Announce Love + Share Take My Life

If, like me, Golomb wasn’t already on your list of acts to keep an ear out for, then, like me, you’ve made a grave mistake. This past week the band just announced their brand new Love EP, and with that, they’ve shared a thundering new single and video to capture your ear. They set the tune up with warbling and whaling guitar, set up to screech on the back of this harrowing beat that sounds like your neighbor pounding on your wall to get you to turn that noise down! As the rhythm section thunders away, the guitar takes its own route, locking in step at moments, ripping its own path at other turns. While the formula seems simplistic, its the execution and the band’s willingness to kind of forged its own destructive path from within that really makes you thirsty for more. The Love EP is out this Friday!

Alluvial Nuggets Release Hot Knives

This new single from Alluvial Nuggets immediately resonated here with the guitar tones; there was something about the bobbing notes working in unison with the gentle strum, setting the scene for this wistful nature to sweep across the song. When James Dutton comes in with his voice, he’s offering up his delivery with a little bit in reserve, as if he is still unsure of how much of himself he’d like to pass onto the listener. You’ll get a beautiful sweeping movement when the drums elevate the track with just a hint more speed just after the 1 minute marker. Look for the new self-titled record to hit on June 28th via Lost and Lonesome.

Club 8 Share Closer to You

It sounds like everyone in Sweden is intent upon landing on these ATH pages by offering up a single every few weeks; there was Red Sleeping Beauty…and today its Club 8. While some of their earlier tracks this year have had a springing nature, this one feels more spiritual in a sense. The guitar dangles in the distance, just sort of hanging itself out there, careful not to overreach, which ends up creating this sort of cavernous vibe. That’s the perfect setting for the vocals, coolly just resting in the mix, locked into the groove so as to offer up the perfect little melodic taste to listeners. I expect to be back soon with another Club 8 hit!

Heaven For Real Prep Mini Album

As you can tell buy today’s jams, there’s been a lot of lo-fi guitar pop playing at my house, and I feel like this new mini album from Heaven for Real is just the added trick to finish off my recommendations for the week. The Grundy brothers open this tune with a nice stomp and twisting guitar lines that establish a nice little ditty-esque foundation. When they start to work their vocals into the song, trading and backing one another, it creates this dizzying spell of melody that is likely to get stuck in your head. But, they break it down in the song’s last minute, so as not to inundate you with a singular style, furthering your ability to digest and enjoy. Hell’s Logo’s Pink will be out on June 18th via Mint Records.

Sad Eyed Beatniks Share Monumental Ensemble

There’s definitely some great tunes coming out today, monumentally so, such as the new single from Sad Eyed Beatniks. This single pulls on you immediately; the lonesome guitar and pacing feel like a leaf casually taking a ride down a slow-moving stream. Kevin Linn’s voice has this brightness that carries through the wistful bend of the notes, though it also gravitates towards a whispering effect, faintly tickling your ears as it billows right by you. If you find yourself in the market for sleepy pop tunes that help you escape the mundane trials of the world, then be sure to pick up Ten Brocades before its July 12th release date via Meritorio Records.

Another Single from Marcel Wave

I’m really falling head over heels for this new stuff from Marcel Wave. Sure, you can pile it with the post-punk adjacent acts, but there’s something really special about Maike Hale Jones. It’s almost as if she’s got this little secret she keeps to herself; you can almost feel her smiling as she hits some of these notes, particularly the strikingly enchanting moments that pop out of the chorus on this tune here. The band itself maintain this effortless cool in everything they do, whether they’re plucking riffs steadily or letting the keyboard work texture the tune, it just feels like a band at the top of their game. Something Looming will drop on June 14th via Feel It Records/Upset the Rhythm.
