New Ballad from Emma Russack

Emma Russack has made these pages on several occasions; she popped up with Permanent Vacation, and then later on her collaboration with Lachlan Denton. But, today we’re pleased to inform you that she’s announced a new LP, and we’ve got the title track working below. The whole of this song revolves around Russack and the piano; the rhythm section hangs out quietly, filling in some of that space just when they’re called upon. There’s this forlorn delivery that Emma seems to have mastered here, adding to the solemn mood emanating from your speakers; it’s a pretty powerful performance, and one I deem worthy of your ears. If you like, Winter Blues will be out on July 5th via Osborne Again Music.

Lachlan Denton Keeps Writing Songs

Lachlan Denton has to be one of the most prolific songwriters this year. He’s already released one album with his friend Emma Russack; he’s got a new record coming our way with The Ocean Party…and now he’s let us know he’s got a solo effort coming out at the beginning of June. This first single is fairly relaxed, with Lach working his voice over careful guitar work; I’ve always loved his voice, so you win right away here. Just after the 1 minute mark a simple drum line enters, adding an extra layer to the track; still, the warmth of his voice carries on, aided by a comforting backing vocal from an unnamed friend. Osborne Again Music will release Two Months in Ben Woolley’s Room on June 1st.

I’m Ready for This Ciggie Witch Record

ciggieIf you haven’t heard of Ciggie Witch, you just need to know that their statement on the world is best summed up in their Facebook page, “classic Melbourne bullshit, never climaxes.” That might turn some off, but for those like me, just gives me more reason to indulge my Aussie obsession (that and a connection to the Ocean Party never hurts). Yep, it’s that classic sound, bright guitars, vocal hooks and a coolness that never seems to fade away. Their album is titled Classic Connection, and it should be on its way June 3rdvia Osborne Again Music.

New Music from Velcro

velcroI feel like it’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from our friends in Velcro, but I know they’re always keeping busy writing, so I’m happy to share this new track with you.  It’s a down-trodden tone, gently drifting along with heavy toned vocals and light guitar work.  I like the fact that they get the most out of simple structures, creating an alluring emotional appeal.  This track is a teaser for an upcoming compilation that the band is putting together for Osborne Again Music.  We’ll keep you posted on that as more details unfold.
