That New Doug Gillard Tune
It’s probably unfortunate that we have such familiarity with Doug Gillard and his various acts, as this tune feels like a completely different approach, at least in terms of what we’ve gotten from his history. It lives somewhere in this territory between Parquet Courts and later Wire records, maybe even like Cola; it’s post-punk in presentation, though Gillard’s vocal delivery offers up just the faintest hint at the tune’s adherence to a history of love songs that came before it. A lovely little twist in a storied career, leaving us guessing as to what we’ll find when the needle drops on Parallel Stride, out April 24th via Dromedary.
