Pet Owner Shares Mind Tricks + Drops Second Nature
There are a ton of great records coming out today, and a lot of those are what we would call “heavy-hitters,” so I wanted to make sure that I gave some time to Pet Owner, who releases their Second Nature LP today! Figure if I give some love to this single, then maybe that will encourage you to go and stream the whole LP. On this number, Lea Mathis’ angelic voice is the dominating factor; it’s fragile and light, building with power just as the song does. This is one of the varying tunes on the record illustrating her skills as a bedroom pop creator; you’ll find the LP blends acoustic elements with studio production, to brilliant effect. If you’re looking for something a little left of the dial, then jump HERE to stream Second Nature…or check it below the single.

Okay, okay. So we didn’t crush it this last week, but I still feel like if you’re looking for a pound for pound playlist of solid hits under an hour, our coverage is primo. We’ve got brand new stuff from We Are Joiners, featuring one of my favorite chorus moments of the last several months. Plus, if you haven’t heard Lola, which I hadn’t, you should fix that before it’s too late. Like me, maybe a subtle guitar pop tune from the New Tigers makes your week, or maybe you want to get swept away in the synth pop of Pet Owner. I’m not sure where to lead you, but I promise there are worst places to spend an hour of your Monday.
ATH got her groove back! Okay, maybe not entirely, but feel like we’ve gotten some solid coverage this week, bringing you some stuff that the other hit promoters might have missed. I wanted to start the playlist off this week with the new single from Massage, as that track made me rush out and count my quarters to grab a copy. RayRay reminded us that Shy Boys are still a force to be reckoned with, while B.Gray is out there encouraging those remaining tickets for Levitation to get picked up. Otherwise, we’re a little all over the place, stylistically, moving between the post-punk of Optic Sink and electronica of Sam Prekop to the quiet beauty of Greg Jamie; there’s a little something for everyone if you click play below!
Last week came and went in a flash, but there were definitely a few hits we wanted to remind you about that were on our radar. Two relatively unknown acts on our radar finally dropped their LPs, so be sure to listen to the hits from Pet Owner and Tin-ear. I was fortunate to see a sneak Voxtrot warm-up set before they head out on the road for a quick reunion tour, so made sure I included a jam in there. Plus, you’ve got new stuff from Winter and the Smashing Times, so there’s just 14 quick hits for you to digest this morning.
I’ve spent the last few months encouraging you to spend some time with Switzerland’s
