Flypaper Share On Your Mind

We’ve obviously been real high on the work of Rory Sear and his project, Flypaper, with both RayRay and myself extensively covering his work since the debut EP a couple of years ago. But now, on the horizon is the newest installment from the songwriter, with a sneak peek via PNK SLM waiting for you below. Instantly, the folk inclinations are there, but I love the approach and its clarity, allowing Sear’s voice to sparkle and the guitars to sort of reverberate. This works in contrast with a lot of the studio magic folks are using, so it offers up this purity that I haven’t seen a lot of lately. If you dig, like we do, Forget the Rush is out on November 7th.

Friday’s are a great day to kick back and absorb the new music that’s coming out, with a definite bonus for those of you who follow our site as there are new releases from some of our favorite artists. Amy O has an excellent record hitting today, plus you get the elegant sounds of Gregor if you’re looking for that immersive pop experience. Chemtrails Say Join Our Death Cult

London outfit Chemtrails have opted to leave the lo-fi production work of their early recordings in order to enhance the vibe on their new LP, The Joy of Sects. Their latest single definitely wears a bit of that studio perfection; you can hear it in the way the vocals get get intertwined perfectly creating this little hook that has your head spinning. But, the band still are driving this thumping psychedelia, often times brooding and other moments sputtering into a smashing bash of joy. When it all subsides, there’s this great bit of buzz trailing behind, locking in the band’s ability to hit all sorts of rock n’ roll notes. The Joy of Sects is out via PNK SLM on January 19th.

7ebra Release Done with the Day Video

When I caught 7ebra during SXSW part of their charm was the dynamic between the twins; I hadn’t really heard anything aside from the lead single, so the performance was more impacting. But, with a new single here, I’m starting to realize what my subconscious already knew. When you press play below, the song seems to begin fairly simply, a vocal and a strum pushing on; there are some slight backing vocals too. Just as you start to settle in, the duo begin to add in their little textural flourishes like the notes from the keys hiding just beneath. A steadied beat enters too, and the whole song begins to swell and wrap around you, as if you’re an insect caught in a web, with the band playing the role of the spider, wrapping you in their silky pop. 7ebra Share Lighter Better Video

During SXSW I was fortunate to catch 7ebra at one of their first shows; the band was a bit frazzled as the set-up was one of those challenging venue moments, but their performance still had this incredible charm that supersedes any nervousness or sound issues. Here you get a video performance with tons of candid footage of the twin sisters, but more importantly, you can hear the captivating sound they’ve created with minimal instrumentation, mostly working with Mellotron and guitar/vocals. Listening, you feel as if there’s much much more to the group, as they’re capable of building this amazing depth by layering the songs and adding harmonies in just the right places. Bird Hour will be released on May 5th via PNK SLM.
