Dead Bandit Share Blowing Kisses

Really stoked to spend more time with this forthcoming Dead Bandit LP, as I’ll admit, I often find myself a bit bored with a lot of the modern post-rock stuff. There’s something in this duo that really makes it feel fresh again, which I’m grateful for today. For instance, this tune opens with this anxiety inducing bit of atmospherics; it’s a dense backdrop to your favorite new sci-fi series. And, as you begin to feel the edge, the group lock into a melodic group of shaking percussion and careful key/guitar lines. Sliding into that melody, you’re hooked, it’s like the saving grace, feeling that rush as you switch from fear into comfort; they build the tune from there, letting you dip your toes into the melodic water, only so they can bring that haunting atmosphere quietly back into the tune. Their new LP Memory Thirteen will be out on February 9th via Quindi.

Fortunato Durutti Marinetti Shares Clerk of Oblivion

After the incredible success of Memory’s Fool, Fortunato Durutti Marinetti is ready to return with Eight Waves in Search of an Ocean. Today, we’ve got the newest single, a meditation on the state of labor, for both the worker and the labor itself, all of it circling into this monotonous oblivion. While the lyrical content details the cycle of continuous work for the sake of work, it’s supported by this incredible synth setting. At times, there’s this uplifting nature and pure nod to post-disco new wave, but on the other side, it feels open, sort of letting the song run its course, into oblivion. The new LP is out on November 3rd via Quindi Records/Soft Abuse.

Fortunato Durutti Marinetti Announces New LP

For some reason, ever since I devoured Memory’s Fool, Fortunato Durutti Marinetti felt like the natural heir to Jens Lekman; the songwriting had the same joyousness, even in serious tracks; it also had layers of depth, sonically speaking, which is clearly a gift in the songwriting. Today, we’ve got the news I’ve been waiting for, there’s a new LP headed our way real soon. This go round, we hear the project was meant to be a melting pot of synths, saxophones and violins; it’s like a chillwave playlist at the local club. As always, the songwriting craft is the perfect cocoon for the vocals, often spoken, then wrapped in the melodic texture. The saxophone work feels omnipresent, like its going to play in your head all night long, or, as I prefer to hear it, like the perfect musical accompaniment to a poetry reading. If you’re into Destoyer or the aforementioned Lekman, press play, slide back into your chair, and let the song dance inside you. Eight Waves in Search of an Ocean is out in November via Quindi and Soft Abuse.

Monde UFO Share Garden of Agony

I have obviously been a big fan of what Monde UFO are doing, bridging a gap between quieted bedroom recordings and bossa nova sentimentality, all of which come to head on the final single from their forthcoming LP. Clearly the guitar strum makes a nod to the Brazilian musical genre, though there’s this whispering vocal that really begs you to use the song to clear out everything else in your head. In listening, you get these odd little notes that seem out of place, but for me, that’s where the song’s of the band get interesting. It’s like they’re trying to distract you from the core beauty of the tune, inevitably drawing you closer into the tune itself. The band will be releasing Vandalized Statue to be Replaced with Shrine on April 21st via Quindi Records.
