We ATH kids have a thing for pop music, especially pop music that might be a little bit on the weird side. Today we are treated to a bit of quirky pop music with this new single “Summer of 2069” via Seattle based pop group iji. The vocals here remind me a bit of Destroyer, while the music is almost like early Of Montreal. This is good stuff.

iji will drop Bubble on July 29th via Team Love Records.

Quirky Pop From Wave Sleep Wave

Wave Sleep Wave is a duo that would certainly call themselves unconventional when it comes to their songwriting technique. This new single from the band called “Pico” is a perfect example of how the band approach music in their very own way. Upon first listen, you might hear comparisons to bands like Silver Jews or even a modern day Talking Heads locked inside somewhere. Give the song a few spins and I’m sure it will be growing on you as it has grown on me today.

New album, Never Notice, will be out on September 9th via Curb Cut Records.

Adios Ghost Take Us in a New Direction

Back in January, I helped introduce you guys to rising Brooklyn band Adios Ghost and their brand of quirky pop music. Well today the band are bringing us their latest single called “Splitting Glass”. It has much more of an electronic feel to it than what we heard back in the winter. I dig the blend of their original folky pop sound with the interesting synth noises going on in the background. All in all, a great track that really peaks around the 4:00 minute mark in an incredible rising action. Stay tuned as we hear more from these guys.
