Last Week’s Jams (7.29 – 8.2)

Pretty sure our coverage crushed it this last week; I think there was one day where we covered ten songs in a single day! But, I’m about to end my summer break, so don’t expect that too much more. Alas, we had album shout outs for Blood, Male Gays, Aaberg, True Optimist and Teenage Tom Petties. Some of my favorite acts returned to the fold, like the Smashing Times and Pop FilterYoung Scum had a new jam, but it’s not streaming yet. Big hits from Chimers, The Gabys and the Softies kept us busy…and always nice to have a Chime School tune too! Enjoy the streams of last week’s jams!

Pleased To Meet You: Raudiver

Technically speaking, we do know the folks in Houston’s Raudiver; it’s the new project of Lauren and Charlie Eddy, of ATH favorites El Lago. They’re taking their darker musical tendencies from the past and really pushing them forward, building songs on synthetic beats and Charlie’s distorted riff work, creating this dense brand of dark pop. Dreamy elements, such as those in the shadows of the video below, pervade throughout the tune, though Lauren’s voice continues to be the lighthouse of pop in the darkened storm of their craft. That texture of guitar in the background definitely adds a nice layer of tension to the tune though, contrasting the dancier goth elements beneath. They’ll be releasing their debut, Leave Before Dark, this September via Geodesic Records.
