I had initially planned to point you towards the new Daily Worker record on Friday, but I’ll admit to getting caught up in my paying gig, so I’m here to remedy that. “Anything Can Explode” hits all the right notes of pop songwriting, with just an added touch of power to really make the crispness of the guitars ring out. HWW has this perfect way of spinning his vocals throughout the record, and this tune, letting the syllables bend with each jangling note that hits. Those who’ve listened to the group before (as we know you have) will hear a bit of a bolder punch on this song, and pervading the whole of Prefab Maverick, so don’t be afraid to crank it up with us! Gum Parker Share Debut Single

The Portland, Maine scene has been pretty rambunctious the last few years, and now there’s a new act to keep your eye upon: Gum Parker. The band is fronted by Galen Richmond, who we know from Repeating Cloud Records, and you’ll find a lot of sonic similarities to the stuff he’s been putting out over the last few years. In talking about the song, he admits to sort of poking fun at himself, looking back on his earlier music projects and being thrilled by their output, despite things “teetering on the edge of completely falling apart.” For me, I love the furious pace and natural enthusiasm that seeps out almost instantly, so I’ll be definitely having my focus on the band going forward!

 

That Hideous Sound Release Wasted Life

The Internet age makes it nearly impossible to cover all the great music out there, but this new record from That Hideous Sound finally made its way over to me this past weekend. Another great group from the current Maine scene, and this one’s for all you fans of heavy riffs spun through the bedroom wash cycle. What I mean by that is you get this intimacy and recording vibe that makes it seem like its been honed and polished in solitary, though the riff works and musicianship allows every song to loom larger than life. “I Feel Better” is an obvious hit, but as I keep going through, I tend to gravitate towards the title track, “Wasted Life;” there’s something about that tune that just gets me. Wasted Life just dropped via Repeating Cloud Records, so get at it!
