Show Preview: Nation of Language @ Mohawk

We know there are a lot of really incredible shows on the docket for this random Tuesday in Austin, but B. Gray and I hope to see you out at the Nation of Language show. They blow into town on the wings of Dance Called Memory, which just dropped a few weeks ago, and currently gets pretty heavy rotation around all of our houses. It’s like synthpop for refined tastes, with the pop accessibility lurking in the shadows of each song, careful not to overdo any one hook or be too overt. That said, Brian still vouches that its one of his favorite shows of the last few years! Oh, and Deeper is opening up! They’re phenomenal, so you better be there before 8 so you can get your feet wet with some stellar post punk. Doors are at 7, show starts at 8 PM. Tickets available HERE.

Austin Psych Fest Returns This April

After a brief break, then transitioning to Levitation, Austin Psych Fest made its return last year; they’ve slimmed it down and made it two action packed days of psychedelic jams for the masses. Today they’ve announced the new lineup, and the headliners are surely going to turn heads. You’ve got Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed at the top…also Yo La Tengo and Kim Gordon, but I want you to remember that the bottom of the bill is where the folks at Resound and Levitation excel. I mean, Dummy put out one of the best records last year, and I still feel like the cool kids haven’t quite caught on yet. Oh, and Dean Wareham is going to do a Galaxie 500 set! This is going to be bonkers, so get your tickets now while you can! The fest goes on from April 25- 27; grab tickets right HERE. Brought to you by Levitation and Resound Presents.

SHOW REVIEW: THE RESIDENTS @ THE PARISH (04.09.23)

Well, it took nearly a week to mentally regroup from the insanity witnessed on stage on Easter Sunday. At a resurrected Parish on the East side, Resound Presents welcomed the longstanding anonymous art collective, The Residents, for their Faceless Forever / Dog Stab! Tour. The tour, which was originally scheduled for 2020, correlated to the 40th Anniversary release of the classic, Duck Stab!. As always with all things, Residents, the performance was a wild synthesis of surreal, avant-garde artistic ventures and wide-eyed catharsis. Follow the jump for more.
