I don’t know about you, Austin’s been pushing out some incredible voices this year; I loved Natalie’s performance in that new Tele Novella LP, and now there’s this great new track from Sarah Addi on the latest Sasha and the Valentines single. After a playful prelude, the song jumps in immediately with this energetic uptick; it’s got that sunny swagger, crossing the border between bossanova and casual cool. Of course, Addi comes in with this dreamy performance, letting her voice hang on the top of the guitars as they hit their high notes. The chorus allows her to soften a bit as the tune takes on a more expansive feel, albeit for a brief moment. This song feels like its perfectly times, hitting just as Austin seems to finally be gearing up for some warm weather. We tried to hip you to Sasha and the Valentines when they dropped their Green EP back in 2019, and now that there is a new LP on the horizon, we reckon you ought to hear for yourself why we’re so excited. I think it’ll be easy to draw some comparisons to early Beach House, particularly if you’re pulling your ears close to the blossoming of Sarah Addi’s vocal performance. Sure, those similarities can’t be denied, but I love the way there’s a bit more of a pull back on the reigns from the Austin outfit; they’re kind of allowing that sort of expansive sound to roll out across the great Texas landscape, rather than force hooks down your throat. Listen to the sound flow, like the smoke from the end of this song, billowing through out your speakers and into the great musical universe. So You Think You Found Love will be out on April 16th via Oof Records.

Even in our own backyard, things slide by, which probably isn’t aided by me choosing to stay home more often and kick it with my rad kid…so please, I apologize for not pointing you earlier to how great Sasha and the Valentines are. I just caught them playing at our friend Maud’s birthday party, and while I knew the rest of the acts would be great, I was caught off by how entrancing this act was. Their EP, dropped at the end of May has these slightly dreamy pop tones, perfectly coated in musical atmospherics right where they need to be. One of the things I loved live, which lives in the recorded version, is the way singer Sarah holds onto monosyllabic notes; it definitely provides a hypnotic effect you might enjoy. These four songs are great, I’m sorry I missed them. But here they are now.
