Last Week’s Jams (3.25 – 3.29)

A lot of really great stuff popped up last week, and we did our best to be on top of as much as we could, though admittedly, it’s a bit of a busy season on our parts (life wise). We were stoked to hear some stuff from Austin homies in the Juniper Berries and Strand of Oaks, both offering great new music you’ll love. Zero Point Energy dropped another tune from their exciting debut, as well as new music from Writhing Squares that sees them stretching our expectations of their sound. Plus, got to finally circle back on some things that had been waiting, like Crumbs, System Exclusive and Climax Landers. Oh, and we ran a Rock n Recipes with our friends in Outer World, so be sure to check it. A few acts like Goosewind and Jetstream Pony didn’t have their stuff up on streaming, so be sure to give it a listen if you’d like.

Seasonal Falls Share Lie Down

Ever since moving from the Dentals into his new project, Seasonal Falls, Roman Gabriel has been on a run of hits. There are elements of this new single that are perfectly fitting into my current listening rotation, bringing to mind a bunch of late 90s/early 00s slow-core; I know Gabriel’s loving Pedro, but there are elements in here that also feel like the down-trodden pop of Bedhead. One of the true joys, however, is there’s this slight little vocal rise in each lead-in to the chorus, and that moment just breaks me every time; there’s this honest fragility that one can’t avoid. If you’re digging this, be sure to be on the lookout for Happy Days, the debut LP dropping May 10th.

Last Week’s Jams (1.2 – 1.5)

We swept back into the New Year with a bunch of tunes last week, though technically we were only working 4 days, so not knee deep in jams as we expect to be here for the next few months. New music from David Nance and Ducks Ltd ruled, but there were some left-field gems lurking like My Best Unbeaten Brother and Camille Benatre, to name a few. I keep coming back to the Seasonal Falls and Red Sleeping Beauty tunes too. Not a bunch, but a damn fine collection of rock n’ roll, even including Austin’s Thanks Light. Stream some hits below.

Seasonal Falls Shares Happy Dayz

I first started covering Roman Gabriel when he was running the Kind Hills, but I’m hyper-focused on his new project Seasonal Falls. When the piano tinkering rings out upon pressing play, you’re immediately hit with this wash of emotion; it creates this wistful sense of longing that’s inescapable. That matches up well with Gabriel’s lyrics here, as the song seems to have listeners straddling the fine line between the terrors of the world we live in and the hope that we can all just embrace living for the moment. As much as I adore those moments, the softness of the strum accompanying the vocals really just sunk me, and I fell head over heels for the magic that’s hanging out before you here. Be prepared to be struck by waves of emotion when the project releases their LP, Happy Days this coming May.

Last Week’s Jams (11.13 – 11.17)

Honestly, not sure what all we’re going to cover this week, as it seems like all the folks have given up hyping new music and records; I reckon its time for those year end lists to really make it out there! But, we did manage to cover a good amount of rock n’ roll last week, so let us hip you to what rips! Personally, I keep spinning the Finnoguns Wake track, which is the new project from Shogun of Royal Headache. That said, there was definitely some cool new stuff dropping from the likes of Flight Mode, Kissing Party and Friko, all of which made our typical coverage. Threw up some Say Sue Me and Rosie Tucker tunes, as a reminder that they’ve been out on the road and I managed to squeeze in both on Thursday of last week! Let it rip!

Seasonal Falls Shares Debut Single

Our Internet friend Roman Gabriel (the Dentals, the Kind Hills) has returned with a new project, Seasonal Falls. Today they’ve shared their debut single, perfect a mid-Fall sound (for those not in the throes of Texas climate change). There’s some really light percussive touches from the snare and piano, quietly working their way into your ear as you turn your focus towards the strum and melodic voice. For some reason, this feels kind of like something Elliott Smith adjacent; it has that natural personality to it, that soft-spoken charm that makes your entire day. Felt like this was a great place to start, and hopefully we’ll hear more from the group soon!
