That New Dry Cleaning Single

It’s only been a handful of months since Dry Cleaning dropped their Secret Love LP, and with a big tour coming up, they just keep pushing ahead, dropping another new single as they gear up to head to the States! Florence Shaw’s sated vocal presence is always a fascinating draw, particularly when it’s paired with this razor riff that slices through the metronomic march of the rhythm section. You can hear where the group continue to incorporate their various influences, both poetic and harrowing as the tune pushes on; I do like how there’s this calm respite in the middle around the 2:15 mark where the tune approaches more of a seance methodology. Keep an eye out for the group as they make their way around the globe!

Dry Cleaning Share Final Single from Secret Love

When listening through the lyrical content of the latest Dry Cleaning single, it might come as a surprise that the initial concept came to be through the viewing of advertisements in the Virginia Tech History of Food and Drink archives…but, it’s the message that should resonate as we turn towards a new year. The theme of “being sweet” could mean many things, ultimately leading all of us to look to more kindness…to ourselves and community. What I love the most about this track is the way Florence Shaw switches up her typical spoken-word delivery into a charming little croon; you get your first chance to hear it right after the 30 second mark. Wonder what else the group have in store for us when Secret Love drops on Friday via 4AD. Here’s to more “Joy” in 2026.
