Popidiot Prep Sweet Marmalade

After starting out with a little bit more of a midweek contemplative tune, I thought it only appropriate that we spin a slight groove into your ears as we hit that hump day. Finnish-Estonian group Popidiot have a new record coming out next week, and this wonderful new track was just made available, thus it should be prepared for you. This song is all about subtlety, despite having a solid groove that serves as the backbone; it hangs just on the edge of a proper club thump, teasing the listener in the best way possible. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of joy in here, but it doesn’t bang you over the head…well, until about the 2:27 mark when it erupts with this fervor and added vocal texture that’ll have you spinning about in your desk chair. Sweet Marmalade is out July 7th via Seksound.

Mariin K Shares Beach Single

If you’re not really up on your Estonia music scene, might we suggest checking out Seksound for the best in the Estonian scene; the label that brought you hits from Pia Fraus and more. Today, we’re really digging this new single from Mariin K, which blends huge fuzzy noise pop sounds akin to JAMC with these really tasty vocal morsels, little earworm treats that you’ll be gobbling right up. This is the perfect juxtaposition, as the track is coated in striking noise, though that central pop gravitational force similarly draws you right into the depths of this tune. Definitely a tune that can improve your day!

Pia Fraus Share Fog on the Hills

Our good friends over in Estona, Pia Fraus, are prepping for the release of their brand new record Evening Colours, and with the release a month away they offer another single to dive into. There’s always been this textured pop feel to the band’s craft, but it feels as if they’ve landed on their own musical planet. The rhythm section is moving quick here, it’s snappy and sharp, rolling when necessary, but that works in contrast to the wash on the front of the mix, which, dare I say, sounds a bit like a creeping fog rolling over the tune. To me, it feels as if they band are operating on a Stereolab adjacent plane, delving a bit more into the atmospheric spots. Striking piece I might say; the new LP is out on June 28th via Seksound!
