Teenage Tom Petties Share Kissed Me in Seattle

The folks at Repeating Cloud and Safe Suburban Home have been hinting at new music from Teenage Tom Petties all week, and boy do we deserve this treat. On this new single, there’s almost a classic ditty feel, something that would have been catchy as hell back in the 50s, but gets a modern dust up by fueling it with walls of distortion that take the hook into the present. They’ve been flirting with catchy hooks since their inception, but this might be the peak, as you’re not going to find something as infectious as this new tune. Bonus points for an Alamo nod! You’ll hear this on the group’s new self-titled LP, which drop via the aforementioned labels on August 2nd.

Weird Numbers Share Summer Legs

When I last covered the forthcoming Weird Numbers LP, the band were offering up this sort of jagged back-and-forth stomp in the vein of post-punk. This go round, the rhythm section and the opening guitar lines brought in something more energetic, pushing the speed and hooks right through your speakers. I’d press play on this for the guitar sounds alone; angular and gritty, always rushing forward. Still, the vocals keep the song’s calm in the midst of the storm, steadying the ship so to speak. Energetic and cool, Weird Numbers is sounding like a ripping good time; it drops Friday via Dandy Boy Records!

Another Carter Tanton Single from S/T Album

Next week, Carter Tanton will be releasing his new self-titled album over on Western Vinyl Records, and of the singles we’ve shared or heard, this one might be my favorite of the lot. The song’s power is this resonating vocals that seems tethered to the guitar work, so much so that they never seem too far away from one another. Tanton’s vocals are glass-fragile, as if they’re about to shatter the minute they cross through your speakers; you’ve got to love the intimate presentation here, like sitting in on a studio session for one of your favorite songwriters. This song’s all emotion, no frills; it drops with Carter Tanton next Friday!
