The Slow Summits Share Budge

Too Good to Be True Records has some solid singles ready to go throughout next year, and our first peak is with the beloved Swedish outfit, the Slow Summits. They offer up a classic indiepop sound, albeit one with their own bits of nuance and flare. You’ve got deep vocal tones, similar to those releases by Cats on Fire that charmed your pants off. Sure, there’s some jangling here, but it’s calmed, not rushing, letting little bits of horns and backing vocals creep in from the background to add the perfect bit of texture to this tune. They always craft these tunes that fit any time of day or year, so right now seems the perfect time for this new single!

Even More New Mammoth Penguins

Fresh off the release of their thematic John Doe release, Mammoth Penguins are already back with a new release, this time curated by Fortuna Pop (the label that refuses to die). These delightful two tracks appear as part of Kingfisher Bluez Singles Club, which has 12 7″ curated by some of their favorite labels/friends. It’s a subscription series, and if this is where the club starts…then we’re in for a good ride. I love the patience shown on the opening track of this 7″, waiting until the 1 minute mark to unleash its beautiful fury. The B-side is a subtle charmer, illustrating yet again why we love whatever Emma Kupa touches. If the 7″ club is your thing, do it…otherwise just enjoy these great jams.

Cinema Red and Blue Single Comes from Fortuna Pop

While Fortuna Pop has called it a day, they remain ultra classy by releasing everything they promised to their Singles Club…such as this Cinema Red and Blue gem. I’ve been a fan of Comet Gain, so having David Feck writing new ditties never seems like a bad idea to anyone…not to mention the involvement of other great acts like Pale Lights and Crystal Stilts. Not sure if this will be the last release we ever get to enjoy from Fortuna Pop, but if so, its great to see it going out with one last incredible pop dosage.

I’m Enjoying a Daydream Waltz

ddwaltsYou come to expect a certain sound from your favorite labels, so I was taken aback when I grabbed this new single from A Daydream Waltz.  It’s one of the latest singles to be released by Art is Hard Records, so you knew I’d be on board, but for an entirely different reason.  I like the melancholic tone of the guitar; it has a bit of a billowing sound as well, which goes even further as the tune progresses.  It’s this perfect bit of pensive pop music, and it’s my jam today.  You can also go and grab the band’s According to Whom EP for the NYP over at their Bandcamp.

Throwback, or Is It? Casual Sex

artworks-000040153461-haigad-cropJust been jamming to this track by Casual Sex all day today, and I’m trying to decide if it’s too old school to be modern, or just a nod.  Every time I listen to this, I think of Ian D and the Blockheads, but it has a little bit more of polish to it.  The Glaswegian group will be releasing this single as a 7″ and as a digital download via Moshi Moshi Music on April 1st.  I don’t know, this track just stuck out to me, and it wasn’t run of the mill, so I figured you all needed to enjoy it too. If you hate it, feel free to tell me!

New Tunes from Jay Reatard

jayDid everyone know that I love Jay Reatard? Okay, so if you follow ATH, it’s pretty clear that I’m a huge fan, and I had promised not to throw his name around for a bit, but I can’t help it. Jay is re-opening his past, meaning he’s relaunching Shattered Records so that everyone can get their hands on his extensive back catalog. Not to mention, he’s offering a subscription to a Singles Club for $75. And, and, he’s giving away a new tune.  Here is that new track!
