While we often comment on the youthfulness of the Cords, it has become more than clear that the duo have no intention of shying away from big pop tracks. I mean, if this track had come out in the 90s, it would have made it onto every single soundtrack or mixtape that came our way. There’s ringing guitars and a left-of-the-dial sentiment, all of it circling like a buzzard high above a horde of pop fans such as ourselves, each one of willing to drop, if only to have these delightful songs play again. Bright pop music might have faded, but songs this good don’t come out every day; you’ll want to grab the self-titled LP on September 26th, courtesy of Slumberland/Skep Wax.

The Cords Deliver I’m Not Sad

When powerhouse labels like Slumberland and Skep Wax unite for a release, you better believe that there’s something great in store, and the Cords continue to deliver on their early promise with this springy little pop number that I’m playing on repeat over here. It’s a short number, so the duo waste no time, smashing in with a rush of guitars to the head and a smattering of drums. A chorus of “ba ba ba” is an easy way to get a sucker like me drawn right in, and its done with such precision that you can’t help other than to be swept up in the joy that seeps through your speakers. Their self-titled LP will be out on September 26th.

If you didn’t order a copy of the new Lightheaded LP that drops next Friday, you might want to get on that right now. The group are very much a modern pop act, but if you listen to their latest single, “The Garden,” you get the feeling that their sound is rooted in the history of the underground. There are some girl-group style harmonies, but also this sort of underlying psychedelia that offers up enough edge to make their sound more than mere homage. Listen to the way they set you up in the first 20 seconds before switching into a bit of swing; you’ll want to grab Thinking, Dreaming, Scheming from Slumberland/Skep Wax now!

What!? You thought Skep Wax and Slumberland were done with pop announcements today!? Nope. They’ve doubled down with more LP news today; this time the two powerhouse labels team up for a new Lightheaded record, with the group aiming to build on the underrated Combustible Gems. Not sure anyone can argue, but this New Jersey lot come out of the gates with a masterful pop swoon, mastering the art of combining girl-group harmonizing with a modern vision that embraces a world where chamber pop is king. You’ll hear tons of touchstones throughout this singular song, but for me, the arrangements in the back perfectly texture their striking sound. Thinking, Dreaming, Scheming will likely be a personal favorite when it hits on June 27th.

Don’t mind us, as we’re sitting on the sidelines watching the new LP from Sassyhiya blow up over here. Luckily, they’ve just recently his us with another spritely video ditty, which, of course, we’re going to cover. For me, this song is all about its movement from within, as the track shifts between poignant and playful, all dependent on the musical element constantly mixing it up. The bouncing chorus is so joyous, it almost makes it hard to realize that this is sort of an indiepop diss track. Sassyhiya Announce Take You Somewhere

Fresh off of the catchiness of “Kristen Stewart,” London’s Sassyhiya return with the announcement of their brand new LP, Take You Somewhere. They jump right back into the joy of life with another infectious number, teasing you with noise before bouncing into the upbeat jangling that sets up the vocal work. Those vocal notes seem to ride on the crests of the rhythm section, going up and down as the track pitches back and forth, though the second foray into the verse seems a bit softer tonally. You should definitely have Take You Somewhere on your radar, as it drops on November 8th via Skep Wax.

Sassyhiya Share Kristen Stewart Single

Even though we’re drawing near the end of the Summer, or maybe that’s wishful thinking, we’ve still got room for this Summer Jam from Sassyhiya. Seriously, if the infectious delivery and stuttering dance from the percussion aren’t enough to get you grooving, then maybe you’ll have to turn to the chorus. They open the tune up there, offering a nice melodic glide with some classic cymbal work filling in the background space. Personally, the employment of multiple layers of vocals throughout the tune is a nice little 1-2 punch for me, laying me out on the floor so I can play the track on repeat. This song will appear on a limited 7″ via Skep Wax, and we can only hope there’s more exciting pop of this sort coming our way.

Jetstream Pony Share Track from Under the Bridge Comp

It appears that it is day two in our support of Skep Wax, as we’ve got more new from the UK label now that they’ve upped a new Jetstream Pony track from the label’s forthcoming Under the Bridge 2 Compilation. If you look at the list of participating artists, it’s all heavy-hitters, with names such as The Orchids, St. Christopher, Boyracer and more. But, I’m here to talk about this new Jetstream Pony tune! I love the driving nature of the guitar work; it reminds me of a poppier version of the Wedding Present, mixing a blend between jangling guitars and distortion. That said, the band’s bread and butter is always the sweet melodic mixture that enters with the vocals, and this jam is no different. Dive into the bliss, and grab a copy before it’s April 6th release (there’s a US distributor to help with shipping costs!)

Swansea Sound Share Paradise Video

As soon as you press play on the new Swansea Sound LP, you’re instantly greeted with the upbeat charms of “Paradise.” Today, the band share a brand new video for the track, highlighting the digital nature alluded to in the lyrical content. The video is created by Malcolm Neon using filmed footage from Welsh TV show, Paid Gadael Fynd; it’s sort of a grainy video playing between shadow and light, sort of commentary on the human experience as a whole.
