Get Weird With Tinkerbelles

It’s Monday people and I think we could all use a little pick me up with a touch of weirdness to get us through the day. My new friends from Chicago, Tinkerbelles, are here to give us just such a song with “Cannibal Tokyo Rainbow”. Be ready for a sludge rock, psych tinged tune that’s heavy as hell and also incredible intricate and tight. If you’re looking for something a little different, hit play now homies.

Tinkerbelles will release Confetti at the Bottom on August 22nd via Brash Tracks (pre-order).

Sludge Rock From ORB

unnamed (1)Australian based sludge trio ORB make music comparable to a band like Terry Malts if they collided with some of the heavy guitar sounds of a band like QOTSA. With that in mind, hit play on this new single from the band entitled “First and Last” and see what it is I’m talking about. We’re mixing some parts psych rock here with some parts sludge and a bit of classic rock thrown in for good measure. It’s nice.

New album Birth will hit stores on July 1st on Castle Face Records.

Sludge Rock From Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party

smpp1Seems like were posting mostly slow and gentle singer/songwriter sounds today so I wanted to find a little something to mix up the tempo.  This awesome jam, “Kraken”, from Quebec based Surfin’ Mutants Pizza Party is just what I was looking for.  If loud, fast, and a little in your face rock n roll is your fancy, click play and have your hunger satisfied.  Check out first single “Brain Avenue” elsewhere on the site.

Austin amigos Fleeting Youth Records will put out The Death of Cool on May 19th.

Great New Track From Criminal Hygiene

Upload Day SxSW 0314123211Los Angeles based homies Criminal Hygiene are a band that really made a name for themselves in the ATH musical guidebook during SXSW last year with their rowdy and intense live performances.  They also staked a claim in my music notes with their highly underrated 2013 debut release CRMNL HYGNE (fully streamable on bandcamp btw).

My fandom out of the way, the point of this post is to let you know that the band just sent us this new track “Pickman” to share with you guys.  The song is just downright badass from start to finish.  It begins in the typical sludgy rock style I’ve grown accustomed to from the guys, and then ends with some thrashing, intense rock n roll that’s sure to wake up even the casual rock fan.  WAKE UP.

This jam can be found on the soundtrack for the new transmedia novella project The Red Bicycle.  The digital soundtrack features tons of great music from local L.A. bands and is free with purchase of the novella.  You can pick that one up for only $9 over on Big Cartel.

Sludge Rock From WTCHS

2984239417-1When I first hit play on this new track “Mr. Hands” from Ontario based WTCHS, I knew I was in for something special.  From the get go, it drops into some seriously loud, in your face sludge rock that carries on throughout the song.  They like to reference QOTSA when asked to define their sound, and I see that, but it somehow manages to be even nosier and darker.  Daddy likes.

This song is on a new split 7″ from the croup with a B-Side by Thoughts on Air.  Check it out on bandcamp and order yourself a copy.

Effected Rock From Bass Drum Of Death

Bass Drum of DeathBass Drum of Death has long been a favorite of the staff around here.  I think the no nonsense punk rock n roll thing is clearly something we all appreciate when it comes down to it.  This new track “Shattered Me” is definitely a “no nonsense” punk rock song, but also has this beautifully constructed chorus that shows maybe a new side to the band.  Maybe Barrett can write the hits too?

A new self-titled album is due out June 25th on Innovative Literature.

Hold Your B.S. by Summer People

8473815500_d002d2ef99

Our amigos over at the BV alerted us to the greatness that is this new song “I Do What I Want” from NYC based Summer People.  Now the title of my post says “Hold Your B.S.” because I feel that’s exactly what this song is telling the listener to do.  It’s straight forward rock/punk rock with a who really gives a shit type of attitude.  I don’t know about you, but I can always go along with those feelings from time to time.

Fans of the tuneage can stay tuned for the April 23rd release date of the band’s new album Burn the Gems.

New Sludge Rock From Theo Verney

2941472308-1We just got sent this short and sweet new sludge rock tune called “Dead N Bones” from Brighton, UK based outfit Theo Verney.  Now Theo tells us that all of his recordings were done completely on his own with full responsibility of instruments falling on his shoulders.  I don’t know about you, but I always find that pretty damn impressive.  So the song we have for you definitely falls into what I like to call the sludge rock category with the darkness of Black Angels and guitars similar to The White Stripes.  It creates this really great moment of rock n roll, though it only lasts a minute and a half.  If you’re into it like me, check out a few more tunes by Theo over on his bandcamp page.
