Last Week’s Jams (10.14 – 10.18)

There was so much new music dropping last week that it was hard to keep track of it all, but I think with 22 new songs out there, we managed to do our part. Greg Mendez was a big winner, with a brand new EP we loved; I also definitely didn’t turn away from the fresh Innocence Mission, which maybe one of my favorite they’ve ever concocted. We had a premiere of a new Sunnsetter tune, and also hit up the latest from The Great Divides, so we’re kind of all over the place musically, making this playlist a journey of sorts. You can’t go wrong by pressing play below!

Friday Album Streams: Spiral XP, Jim Nothing, Humdrum and More

Fridays are always great days to just settle into your chair, couch, bed, whathaveyou, then just escape the world for a few hours. What better way than to stream some brand new music that’s dropped into the world? There’s a bunch of stuff out today, but I sort of handpicked what I’ve been enjoying and listening to the most, hoping you can latch onto a bit of that as well.

Last Week’s Jams (10.7 – 10.11)

We crushed the coverage last week; we had some ACL coverage as well as some Sigur Ros notes from their Austin show. But, we also covered a solid 28 tracks, 26 of which made the cut on our Last Week’s Jams (the new Boyracer and Rocky Lorelei can only be found on the site). A new track from the Serfs is still living rent-free in my brain, while I discovered just how much I’m enjoying Kim Deal‘s new solo stuff. That doesn’t even scratch the surface, as there were several Texas’ acts like Pets and Trauma Ray getting some new jams out. I will admit, perhaps I overdid it, but eh, you love the new stuff right? Cool. Stream it then.

Spiral XP Share Window Room

We’re only ten days out from the next Spiral XP release, and another tune hit yesterday that continues to have the group high upon our list of anticipated releases that are wrapping up the end of the year. This tune runs with two distinctive sounds, both worthy of following along; the melodic center is the nervous system, holding the track together, all the while the noise rings out in the track’s outer sphere. While they seem to work in juxtaposition, the two sounds are melded together, thus creating the band’s perfect balancing act. I Wish I Was a Rat it out on October 18th via Danger Collective.

Last Week’s Jams (9.3 – 9.6)

Just because it was a short week doesn’t mean we couldn’t cover a whole lot of brand new music, especially since there were some unexpected returns that we didn’t know were coming, like new jams from The Green Child and The Innocence Mission. More recent favorites dropped some solid tracks for us, so check in with the latest from Best Bets, Naked Roommate and Mo Dotti. But, don’t just think it was all bangers, with the softer side coming through via Adrian Marner and Tom Emlyn. And, be sure to check in with that new Forceghost, who I’d like to apologize to for misspelling the name of their Recycled Hearts release; sorry my friends! Just press play and enjoy!

Spiral XP Share Sinner Single

Spiral XP has been on our radar since dropping their It’s Been a While EP, though we might suggest checking in on their split with TV Star too. Alas, all that to say we’re really excited for the forthcoming full-length, I Wish I Was a Rat, with another single dropping to get you on board today. This is a steady crunch rocker, something you’d expect from folks living up in the Pacific Northwest, though they’re certainly taking care to instill some of the noisier elements in their sound. There are elements of this jam that feel like a march, like a step in line up the mountain, rejoicing in walls of screaming guitars when you reach the peak. I Wish I Was a Rat is out on October 18th via Danger Collective.

Last Week’s Jams (7.29 – 8.2)

Pretty sure our coverage crushed it this last week; I think there was one day where we covered ten songs in a single day! But, I’m about to end my summer break, so don’t expect that too much more. Alas, we had album shout outs for Blood, Male Gays, Aaberg, True Optimist and Teenage Tom Petties. Some of my favorite acts returned to the fold, like the Smashing Times and Pop FilterYoung Scum had a new jam, but it’s not streaming yet. Big hits from Chimers, The Gabys and the Softies kept us busy…and always nice to have a Chime School tune too! Enjoy the streams of last week’s jams!

Spiral XP Announce I Wish I Was a Rat

Since February, Spiral XP has been absolutely crushing it; they dropped an EP in February, then appeared on a compilation featuring the best acts from the Seattle area. Today, they announce I Wish I Was a Rat, their new record for Danger Collective. Heavy riffs are prominent, such that you might hear the forefathers of the area bleeding through in the sound, as they’re clearly not afraid to incorporate a bit of noise in their craft. That said, they have a penchant for delicious melodies, balancing out the distorted chugs that bleed through here…a little bit of darkness contrasting against the light…the perfect musical setup. I Wish I Was a Rat is out on October 18th.

Last Week’s Jams (2.6 – 2.10)

Well, it seems like we finally worked out the kinks in our lives and were able to get a solid week’s worth of jams out your way. Was excited to get that new High Water Marks tune out there, as well as new Monnone Alone, if you like your pop mixed with a bit of punch. New Austin act Daiistar has their first single, plus our old ATX friends Letting Up Despite Great Faults dropped a new single too from their forthcoming EP! There’s tons of other hits from the likes of Deuce and the Golden Dregs too. Unfortunately, new stuff from Mythical Motors and Weird Numbers isn’t quite on the DSPs, so if you like what we’re covering, check those hits too on the site.

Spiral XP Share Another Ripper from It’s Been a While EP

This Friday you’ll be able to stream all the songs from Spiral XP‘s brand new It’s Been a While EP, and with that, it seems only fitting that we hit up the latest single. For me, this song’s all about those churning riffs, ringing out in the front of the mix here. Sure, the jettisoning notes that shoot off into the horizon are great, but there’s something primal and rhythmic about the lead work; it’s like you’re running full steam ahead, almost out of balance and about to fall flat on your face. Except the vocals keep you steady; they’re calmed indifference in the midst of the noise holds you upright, keeps your ears and guarantees you get a taste of enough melody to come back to this track! Look for the EP this Friday courtesy of Danger Collective.
