Austin Spotlight: Even More New Jams from Spray Paint

painterstapeWe’ve already featured several of the new tracks from the next Spray Paint LP, Clean Blood, Regular Acid, so why not get you hip to yet another.  On this song, there’s a lot of reason to see the band as one of those outfits that only play by their own rules…the guitars take on varying tonal qualities, the gang call-and-response vocals come at you from a distant, and there’s this bending chord that swells within the tune.  It kind of reminds me of Liars when they were young and didn’t give a fuck, which is perfect, as I don’t think these care about anything other than making great rock n’ roll on their own terms…albeit really great/interesting terms. You can grab their new album from Monofonus Press on September 23d.

Austin Spotlight: Another Spray Paint Tune

Spray-PaintA little over a week ago we tossed up a tune that was from the forthcoming album from Austin’s Spray Paint.  But, while we’re waiting for what’s sure to be another rad record from the band, they’ve also announced a new 7″ for Upset the Rhythm that’s coming out next week.  I’m loving the discordant pluck that rides along this tune, while the pummeling beat just pounds away.  Lyrics accompany the first half of the song, and the last few seconds, but the middle is filled with instrumental pacing, of the dangerous sort.  Not sure if “Cussin” will appear on the next LP, or if it’s just a stand-alone 7″, but it’s another reason for people to continue their praise of the Austin three-piece.

Austin Spotlight: Spray Paint Return with New Album + Show

normanwanklordIt’s been rather a slow year for Austin’s Spray Paint, considering they released two great LPs in 2013.  But, we don’t have to wait anymore, as the band are readying their new album for release in September via Monofonus Press. The track begins with a bit of angular propulsion, almost in the vein of a repetitive stutter. But, the song opens up with a bit more discordant noise just after the minute mark, only to quickly return to the steady drive of the track.  The record is titled Clean Blood, Regular Acid, and it’s sure to make a lot of local year end lists, not to mention getting the Norman Wanklord seal of approval.  AND…if you’re in Austin tonight, you should check out their live show this evening at Hotel Vegas with Flesh Lights and more.
