I’ve really been enjoying this new HANYA tune today; it has bits and bits of good stuff, woven together to offer up this unique dreamy pop blanket you want to wrap around you. For me, Heathe Sheret’s voice has this subtle range that serves to knit all the little moments together; if the song goes towards shoegaze, she pulls it back in with the crystalline vocals; if it gets a little too pop, she flirts with the pitch, dropping it up and down in the mix to throw off the balance. Think you’ll be just as taken by this tune as I was, so be sure to keep an eye out for this Brighton outfit.

Bombshell Nightlight Ready Blue Heron Above Me LP

Our good friends over at Anything Bagel have a new release lined up for you just before the year draws to a close; the new LP from Bombshell Nightlight. The project is the work of Missoula’s Jon Cardiello, getting by with a little bit of help from his friends. For me, listening through this album sampler, its his voice that stands steady in the storm; it ties the listener to every nook and cranny. But, what I’ve been marveling at is the ebb and flow of these three tracks; they carry this unique ability to swell with pop melodies and little details that give the tunes a depth you don’t always get with the songwriter fare. The entirety of this listen is an ode to the struggles Jon faced in his mid-20s, from breakups to new love to the death of his father; its as relatable and intimate as you’re going to get! Blue Heron Above Me drops on December 4th!

Pleased to Meet You: The Pierce Kingans

The role of the small label is to throw support behind something you truly believe in, something you think will rise to top, something you want the whole world to hear…at least that’s how I see it. I think Subjangle Sounds it taking the same approach with the release of Pierce and Love to all the World, a compilation of sorts from The Pierce Kingnans. In this collection, you’ll find yourself enjoying 20 pop ditties, just on the right side of weird. Some tunes, like “No One Owns You,” carry the intimacy of bedroom pop, though you can get crisp rocking ditties like “It’s Bleed Too Long” too. For me, there’s just so much to digest, which is why I’m glad that the record’s a great introduction to an artists that currently has my tastebuds intrigued. What say you?

Romero Share New Single, Troublemaker

It’s funny, just when you’re about to go and pigeonhole an entire city and its musical output, something comes at you and says not so fast! Today, that band is Romero, the newest act out of Melbourne to bring the hype overseas. Now, don’t think this is your typical casual pop affair, as this is a high-energy, balls to the wall rock affair; it’s full on arena rock ready pop music, with Alana Oliver’s voice soaring with bravado over these towering riffs. It’s a huge sound, just laying in wait to take over the world with big hooks, so get your ears ready for some pop rocking sounds!

The Pale Kings Drop Poison Darling

Good old Tuesdays…a fancy twist on Mondays. So, I was in need of a good pick me up, and thought you could use the same, which is where The Pale Kings come into play. I’m not even going to lie to you; this sounds like a modern spin on the Smiths, just minus the douche-baggery that accompanies Morrissey (at least as far as I know). You’ll find spirited tunes, the sort that kick your shoes up off the dance-floor as your arms flail about. If anything, maybe your at home in your Covid workspace, so you’re quietly tapping your toes…either way…you can’t turn away from the joy in these tunes!

Asa Morris Readies Another EP

The quarantine has kept songwriter Asa Morris rather busy, having already released 3 EPs this year, so why not drop one last one in there before we wrap up the shiftiness that is 2020. I love the hidden feel of the vocals, as if they’re whispering to me from somewhere down the hallway. Musically, there’s this really subtle melodic fall; it first happens in the song around the 50 second mark, and its admittedly the moment that I found myself swooning over this tune here. Loud & Sad is the name of Asa’s new EP, and if it sounds like this, you’re surely going to be hearing from me again.

Teethe Release New LP

Going back through last week, one release I think I’d like on your radar is the new self-titled LP from Dallas band Teethe. The band are operating between that sort of bedroom emo style like fellow Texans Hovvdy, bu they also employ a bit of the North Texas penchant for slow core. I love the way this song burns slowly, like a candle giving off warmth but refusing to be extinguished. It’s one of those tunes where you can feel the emotion sort of dripping out through your speakers, rendering you moved yet immovable. Feel free to browse the rest of debut LP while you’re at it!

Hobby Announce New 7″ EP

Parisien quintet Hobby have just announced their brand new 7″ EP for the esteemed Hidden Bay Records. The group, formerly known as Deaf Parade, aim to strike right at the heart of the indie rock cognoscenti, driving rhythm and chaos into a tightly wound ship of infectious rock n’ roll. Just imagine pop fans taking notes from early Sonic Youth and deciding you can indeed have your cake and eat it too; you get the phenomenal energy bounding throughout, touches of explosiveness and a nice little dose of pop hooks to keep you circling back to press repeat. You’ll love it, and you’ll love the accompanying video; the 7″ is available on December 11th.

The Black Watch Share Drip Drip Drip Video

If you thought a band couldn’t surprise you after 18 LPs, I think the Black Watch are out to prove folks wrong. The entirety of Fromthing Somethat gives you a variety of sounds and styles, while still being tethered to the songwriting of leader John Fredrick. I actually like the almost sedate nature of this number, mostly working over a heavy strum. It matches the darkened nature of the video, with clusters of color drifting in to form images upon a black background. Fredrick has a slight rise in certain moments in the song that almost lean towards Bob Pollard similarities…but perhaps I’m stretching too far with my pigeonholing! Alas, its just another great track from a band that never ceases to impress me. Fromthing Somethat is out now via Atom Records.

Beach Vacation Release I Fell Apart

Begun long ago, the story of Beach Vacation is continuing with their excellent I Fell Apart LP, which drops today courtesy of Z Tapes. I wanted to kind of pick up on one the album standouts, which gives you a glimpse to the various sides of the band’s sound. You get this initial shimmering bounce, kind of a rougher edge before the song sort of slinks off into this mellower pop vibe. Soft vocals coo across rhythm, counteracting against the energetic forces pushing through. Every once in a while the band get a little heavy, offering a look at the various styles you’ll get to hear on the LP.
