Winter Drop Here I Am Existing

It took me exactly 19 seconds to fall totally in love with this new track from Winter. The song started with just a slight atmosphere over a simple beat, but then it twisted in with these shiny guitars all angling and jangling in the wind. Samira wraps her vocals around the track, coating it in this dreaminess that takes you out of your body as you twirl and lose yourself in the song’s middling interlude. Things settle back into their groove as the track comes to its closing minute, shimmering in this sort of cacophony psychedelia. This song appears on her forthcoming LP titled Endless Space (Between You & I), which is out July 24th via Bar None Records.

As a kid, I remember being in love with the sound of punk and grunge upon my introduction to it all; it felt like something I could do, something that was attainable (the sound/not stardom). Somewhere, sitting in their bedroom right now is a similar kid, waiting for that same door to open, that same sound; please play them this song from Galore. The band’s guitar sound has this sharp angular stabs and guitar riffs, which can come across as frantic at times, matching up with the vocal howls. When the whole group joins in on the vocals, this is what rock n’ roll should feel like, to me anyways; it has this rapturous joy, even when the tone seems harsh. Everything about this song, from the music itself to the video makes you want to be part of the fun; makes you want to start a band, makes you want to be part of something bigger than yourself…that’s what rock n’ roll should be. Even as We Speak Shares Someone Video

After reuniting in 2016 for the much-missed NYC Popfest, Even as We Speak have share a good bit of new music; first an EP and now we’re anxiously anticipating Adelphi, their first full length after their return. Today we have another reason to celebrate “Someone,” as the band just shared the video of the dreamy track. The video mostly works with shots of Mary singing in various settings on different TV sets, throwing in some full bands shots along the way. One of the reason’s I love this song is how it seems like Mary’s the star, but there’s so much to shine a light on in the other bits behind the front of the mix…particularly in the way the guitar closes out the tune. Adelphi is out on July 24th via Shelflife.

Cotillon Releases Cruiser

Today you can finally get your hands or your ears on Cotillon‘s new album, Cruiser, and what better way to honor that release than to turn our attention towards the title track. It opens with little audio bites and this guitar line that seems suspended in thin air; it’s a sensation of weightlessness crafted by the textured sounds Jordan Corso has managed to craft. That guitar line hangs in throughout the tune, though other little layers sit atop, like the vocals or that guitar line sliding in and out of focus, all of it blossoming near the two minute mark for a euphoric bop that carries us to the end. Sample this tune and if you’re so inclined, go invest a little time in the full LP available today!

RG Lowe Shares Beauty Finds Forever Video

While I admittedly am struggling with a lot of mellow vibes during quarantine, the artistic vision of the lates RG Lowe single allowed me to immerse myself in the thematic elements, allowing the song to be slowly absorbed. While the video continues with Lowe’s themes of sensuality and physicality that run through his newest release Life of the Body, there’s more of a delicate structure to the song itself. It seems fitting that one of the core members of Balmorhea would craft such a tune; part of the song’s majesty revolves around the space in the track, with strummed guitar and voice over a light piano, it truly becomes like this ornate moment. As a connoisseur of ten second pop moments, I think the swell from 2:15 to 2:25 is quite special…as if the song needed anything more. Life of the Body is out May 22nd via Western Vinyl.

Chelsea Wolfe and Jess Gowrie are Mrs. Piss

I think Chelsea Wolfe might be one of the more underrated songwriters out there these days, and this time out, she’s working with friend (and drummer) Jess Gowrie to build a new sound under Mrs. Piss. Immediately its riff heavy, howling at you before anything else even comes into play. Of course, Gowrie soon enters with her powerful drum work, allowing the vocals to alternate between softly spoken-word and spiritual scream. It’s this haunting hit hurdling towards your ears, and despite the fact that its much more of a rock song, it still feels like its 100% Wolfe. Really excited to see what these two come up with on their debut Self Surgery, out May 29th via Sargent House. You can catch another track HERE.

Boyracer Drop New Video for Hit and Miss

If you’ve got two minutes to spare, you wouldn’t possibly find a better way to spend them today than listening to the fuzzy bop of Boyracer‘s latest single from their forthcoming On a Promise. Every time I listen to the band, I can’t help but make comparison’s to the Wedding Present; I’m sure Stew would hate to hear that. But, just take that great guitar work and really build on the pop sensibility, and that’s what you get here; there’s a certain driving ferocity, though this has a huge bounce to it from the rhythm section…and that horn was a really nice touch. Guitar pop’s supposed to have a hook and this bunch is full of them. Stay tuned for On a Promise to drop on June 5th via Emotional Response.

Jade Imagine Share Coastal Pines

I’m always digging on what Jade Imagine is working on, and this new single from the band is probably one of my favorites from their forthcoming EP, You Remind Me of Something I Lost. There’s a steady rhythm section that helps keep the ship steered straight on this one, with the guitar lines sort of fading in and out of the mix, shimmering here, evaporating there. Jade McInally’s voice meanders through the paths of dreamy pop with this cool indifference, seemingly shrugging off whatever surrounds her as she veers to song towards its melodic best. Their new EP will be officially out on June 5th.

Enjoy Maggie Blue by Dead Parties

Dead Parties is the work of Etienne Mamo, who has also plays in the New Black; he’s currently relocated form his native Australia to Spain, where he’s rocking his solo work like the below single. There’s some psychedelic fuzz around the corners, which, of course, I’m digging on, though I’ll admit that there’s this really great pop sensibility that rides through the core of the song that drew me in initially. It’s kind of like a chugging power-pop tune with hints of psychedelic haze. It’s a good little rocking tune, and for me, a great introduction to Dead Parties…perhaps its the same for you…or so I hope.

CHAD Share Isolation in Advance of Good Talk EP

This Friday, Portland band CHAD will be dropping their sophomore release, Good Talk EP. Before you get a chance to dip your toes in the full EP, we wanted you to sample a little of the sweet sounds crafted for the release. Sarah Lane’s vote is as captivating as ever, almost manipulating the song with her voice; the synth work seems to move around the rise and fall of her notes. There’s a slightly ominous texture entering in the song’s back end, though ultimately you get this thoughtful dreaminess that pervades through the 3 minutes. Look for Good Talk this Friday!
