ES Announce Debut LP, Less of Everything

Until this morning, I knew very little about ES, but as of now, I’m completely converted. When I first played this single from their forthcoming Less of Everything LP, I was transported back to some of the stuff off the second Wax Idols LP. It had this swirling madness that was intoxicating; there is a primal pulse, and I couldn’t pull myself away from the song. In a way, there’s this tension that’s suffocating, simultaneously pulling you in with some inexplicable gravitational pull; it feels dangerous, but leaves you begging for more. Less of Everything will be released by the esteemed folks at Upset the Rhythm on April 3rd.

Honey Cutt Share Coasting

There’s only a handful of albums hanging out on the horizon that I’m really buzzing about, and this new one from Honey Cutt is definitely on that list. Coasting will come out on March 13th, but today we get the title track from the record…a personal song from Kaley’s childhood about overcoming homelessness during a trying time for her family. Perhaps that’s why I’m so high on this LP; the lyrical content, thus far, seems really heavy and personal, but there’s this shimmering promise to the music. In part, that’s the nature of the genre here, but also maybe it’s more, maybe there’s promise for us all, and that’s what you get to take away with you. I guess we’ll find out when Kanine drops the LP in March!

Pting Announce Boo EP

Oh, just another day and another great track coming out of Melbourne, Australia. Today we’ve got this brand new tune from Pting, along with the announcement that they’ll soon be releasing the Boo EP. This one’s exactly as charming as you’d expect, with the appropriate amount of bounce mixed with super crisp guitar noodling. Once Elsie comes into the party with her voice, you can’t help but to feel swept up in the exuberant energy they’re pushing through your speakers. There’s an emphatic closing that finishes your listening off on a high note; you’re going to want to grab this EP when it hits on February 21 via Osborne Again.

Seablite Share High Rise Mannequins Single

By now, you’re surely aware that I’m an avowed Seablite fan, so as another tune pops up, of course it’s going to make the pages here. This one’s got these sharp little guitar chords that jangle and hang in the front of the song during the verses, setting up the chorus to deliver a noisy wall of fuzz that blows your hair straight back. Throughout, the band walk that narrow tightrope between noise rock and bubblegum pop; you get the best of all your favorite genres in one delicious little pop nugget. You can grab the new High Rise Mannequins EP from Emotional Response, out on February 21st.

Bones Garage Share I’ve Loved Video

Hopefully you recall last year’s Oi Ma Yeah, the Bones Garage LP we helped put out into the world (listen here) because it was an excellent pop record, perhaps overlooked by folks in the US. But, the Tel Aviv act is back again this year with Poland, another LP we’ll have a hand in getting out to the masses. Today, they share “I’ve Loved,” which is perhaps one of the more striking songs on the new record; it’s a song all about loving everyone you encounter, despite not loving yourself enough. The video, like the song, is stripped down, focusing entirely on Ariel as she shares her song with you. Let’s hope you’re all paying attention this round, as the group is phenomenal and we’re super happy to have a small hand in sharing their music with you.

Kyle Forester Shares Marigold

It’s interesting listening to Kyle Forester solo efforts, particularly when you’ve spent a great deal with his projects like Crystal Stilts or Cinema Red and Blue. Those acts had this inherent fuzziness, carefully hiding Forester’s pop sensibility. But, as with his first solo LP, his forthcoming album seems to have this laser-focus on just the craft of great songs. Here, it feels as if you’re sort of taking a walk through Kyle’s world as he ruminates on all the beautiful things he’s come across in his life; the guitar lines are patient, as his vocal delivery, allowing you to melt into the tune. There’s a clarity in this song, which indicates the promise of Hearts in Gardens, out on February 21st.

Mystery Guest Share The Red Dance Video

Wondering what’s hot in that hip Melbourne scene? Right now it seems like it’d be good to place your bets on Mystery Guest. The group offer up this super low-key club vibe, using the first 1.5 minutes to seduce you with this deep bubbling pulse working beneath smoothed melodic vocal notes. You get an energetic uptick afterwards, with the song taking on a shimmering sparkle with tribal rhythms and keyboard stabs. It’s not exactly a club bang, which is perhaps why I’m drawn to it; it feels a little more nuanced and carefully crafted, drawing out the emotional release rather than beating you over the head with it. This tune will be out on the duo’s debut LP, Octagon City, which drops March 6th via Tenth Court.

The Radio Dept Release New Music

So, the Radio Dept. are reissuing their sophomore effort, Pet Grief; they’re also touring the US with fellow Swedes, Hater. But! None of that is of any import, as the news is merely there to disguise a brand new song…the first in two years! Here, the band begins subtly, moving in slow with a calmed melody; it sort of reminds me of a really stripped down Clientele. Their usual haze and texturizing are absent, at least until the first minute of the song, and even then, it almost feels more like an uplifting of the initial opening, before slinking back to the trickling pop gem. They promise there’s more on the way, and I promise, I’ll be rushing to keep you up to date, as they’re one of my faves! Their US dates start in April thru early May.

Another Hit from Non La

Near the end of last year we heard the first tune from the Not in Love EP from Vancouver’s Non La; I was struck by the earnestness of the tune, but also how brazenly catchy the track was. Here’s another tune off said EP, equally hook-laden as the first tunes we heard. There’s just something freeing about everything DJ On is writing at the moment; I can just envision going to a show and bouncing up and down around the club, screaming at the top of my lungs along with everyone else in the room. These are sing-a-long hits that make you feel good about the world, so go ahead, make the world yours today. The whole EP is out on February 14th via KingfisherBluez/Lost Sound Tapes.

New Pop Tune from Tugboat Captain

I’ve written about Tugboat Captain previously, and with the London outfit scheduled to show up in Austin for SXSW, I thought it would be a nice time to check back in on the band. They’ve just offered up this new tune in demo fashion in hopes of raising some funds for their 3rd LP, as well as that trip across the sea. Personally, I’m not sure what else they could really add to make this more than a demo, aside from punching up a level here and there in the mix. I love the breakdown at the 3 minute mark; it’s the perfect way to cap off a promising tune. If you’re inclined to support the group, you can go HERE to throw a buck or two their way.
