Numb.er Gives Us Another Tune

I’ve been pretty anxiously awaiting Numb.er’s new LP, which is still a few weeks away from showing up in shops. Today the band shares another driving number, rushing through your speakers from the minute you press play. The vocal delivery has this sort of post-punk indifference to it; its as if Jeff is forced into antagonizing an invisible audience. Maybe it’s like IceAge a little bit, but spun through some industrial noise manufacturer. Goodbye is the title of their new LP, and its hitting stores on May 25th via Felte.

Dumb Release Second Single

I’m personally really excited about the forthcoming Dumb LP, and while I loved the first single, this second one is so ridiculously good that I can’t help but play it on repeat. It shuffles in with this almost skittering version of “Birthday,” but then it unfold into this furious beast that won’t let go of you. Lyrics are delivered in a barrage, emphatically reinforced by pounding blasts of percussion and guitars; the vocals then take a sort of art-punk turn, giving into an almost spoken-word manner whilst the tension builds behind. I just want you to groove to this track all day! Look for Seeing Green courtesy of Mint Records on June 22nd.

Deeper Back with Another Single

Chicago’s Deeper are just a few weeks away from dropping their debut album, and I’m anticipating heavy rotation around my household. On their latest single, it definitely has that arty post-punk vibe, akin to Omni. But, what the group uses that puts them slightly in their own realm is they brandish sparkling guitar lines; they’re not as sharp as one would hear in a jagged art punk style, giving a natural melody to the band’s sound. Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t get enough of this band. Their self-titled debut will be dropping on May 25th via Fire Talk.

 

White Denim Announce New LP

Austin’s White Denim have long been a staple of the local scene, and they look to secure their continued post with the announcement of their new LP, Performance. Locals might have caught a few of these tunes at a recent set, but those outside the city walls might just be getting hip to the Bolan-esque direction of the new tunes. It’s very much a crunchy glam-stomp, with flexed muscles courtesy of squawking horns in the distance. They’re sure to include a steady groove that ebbs and flows on the melody throughout, guaranteeing that hook factor. The new album will be released on August 24th on the band’s new label, City Slang Records.

Henrik Appel Goes Solo

Henrik Appel was once part of hot Swedish act, Kilroy (among others), but he’s just now making it out into the world under his own name. Our introduction to his solo work is a pretty straightforward adventure, but for some reason, I’m entranced. The guitars have this seemingly warped effect that craft the song in a weird manner; I think of super-early Elf Power immediately. Atop the strumming Appel makes his vocals soar, coolly letthing voice ride the wave he’s crafted with his guitar. Of course, if its awesome, it appears that its coming from PNKSLM; Burning Bodies drops June 29th.

Young Scum Drop Indiepop Hit

Did you love that Tres Oui LP? Well, just imagine that album, stripped of Stevesie; you’ll get a clean indiepop sound, which is precisely what Young Scum are offering us on this new single. It ends up giving the band a more spritely version of the pop the Lucksmiths were crafting, but I know these guys have a penchant for distortion, so perhaps we’ll get a mix of both to delight us. Only time will tell, as the band will release their debut LP via Citrus City and Pretty Olivia Records on July 6th.

Premiere: Committee(s) Read (Final) Flares

Committee(s) have been working for a few years now, with Sean Husick organizing the group’s debut around various other projects by the members. What began as an after-show conversation between friends has completely evolved into the band’s first full-length, (Final) Flares. Members of the band have performed in acts such as Milemarker, Bats & Mice, as well as Sleepytime Trio, so it would suffice to say that noise and certain indie rock tendencies would be present. That said, the band take that history and spin it into this spinning piece of calming shoegaze. Guitar chords ring in the distance, but there’s this subtle harmony that works throughout the song’s six minutes. Boiled down, it’s a pop song, informed by the history of its members who’ve been working playing music longer than most of us have been reading about it (online, at least), crafting a style wholly their own at the moment. Their debut LP will be released by Lovitt Records on May 18th.

Short Ditty from Buck Meek

Big Thief’s Buck Meek will be releasing his self-titled debut in just a couple of weeks, and we’re getting one last single before the official release day. This short number is pretty special, pulling from folk traditions and fleshing them out in Peter and the Wolf fashion; you’ll hear exactly what I’m talking about when you give the song a close ear. That’s what makes this effort so striking; it’s the little details given to individual tracks that elevate the entire LP. It’s being released over at Keeled Scales, who will also be on hand for the Texas Record Bazaar at ABGB on Saturday.

Premiere Summer Twins Ready New 7″

January brought us new music for Summer Twins; it was the first new music we’ve heard from the sisters since 2015’s Limbo. But, today we’re really excited to share this glittering ballad off their brand new 7″ for Wallflower Records. Opening with a lonely guitar tone, as if it were out there rambling all alone, sets the tones for the soulful entry of the vocals. It’s striking in its immediate presentation, but as the song unfurls added layers build a powerful structure…percussion and strings aid in this swelling pop. It wraps up in the end with that same solemn guitar and vocal, a beautiful close to a beautiful tune. Their new 7″ will be available digitally on Wednesday, with Wallflower putting out the physical copy midsummer!

New Music from Being Dead

This year has seen Austin’s Being Dead continuously put out single after single, and their latest is quite something. The first couple of minutes of “Rocky Mountain Cowboy Blues” see Cody draping his voices over a warm electronic atmospherics. Eventually the duo erupt in noise, blasting through your speakers, albeit for just a moment. Then it turns back to the calming bedroom pop before fading out into the ether. On the flipside, “Future Earth Street” has Juli stealing the show, bringing a bit of swagger with her performance on this slowcore stomper. A young Austin band in their ascendancy for sure.
