Summer Song from Space Daze

spaceThis track was tossed out a few weeks back, and I completely let it slip my mind how incredible it was, until now.  Space Daze is the side-proejct of singer/guitarist Danny Rowland of Seapony, and as he readies a record, he’s offered up this delightful tune.  It’s similar to the work of his main act, holding onto the sincerity of great pop songs, featuring gentle guitar and a really light vocal touch.  His album is titled Follow My Light Back Home, and it this song is any indicator, we’re going to have a great summer album to enjoy when it’s released next week.

Check Out Study Hall

hitsI love limited edition pressings from labels who I already trust, so I’m looking forward to this new Hits from the Streets Volume II, featuring the hottest up-and-comers from Nashville’s scene.  It’s being put out by Infinity Cat, and I’m totally in love with this track from Study Hall.  The band’s track on the album is a short little number, offering up this nerdy garage rock that’s begging for you wrap your ears around it.  I’m looking forward to discovering some other acts that I haven’t heard about yet, so you should keep your eye out for some surprises too.

Growlers Ready New Album

The-GrowlersIf you haven’t gotten aboard the Growlers train, it’s time you all jump on this train.  They actually had two releases last year, and already they’re back with another one, lined up for later this year. Hung at Heart was a great LP, so we expect more of the same, especially after indulging in this latest single.  It’s got their soulful swagger, yet this song seems to hold more onto the traditional ballad format; that’s not a bad thing, just a slightly different spin on their sound.  Their new album is title Chinese Fountain, which will see a release of September 23rd via Everloving Records.

Two New Releases from Trouble In Mind: Soft Walls & Ultimate Painting

LP.jkt.templateIt’s been a great year for releases from Trouble In Mind Records, with my favorite being the Greg Ashley LP, but they’ve also got two new releases you need to keep your eyes on in the near future.  The first is from Soft Walls (album art to the left); it’s the project of UK-based Dan Reeves, and it sounds an awful like combining Fujiya and Miyagi with your favorite psychedelic band.  The debut of the project is called No Time, and it’s out on July 29th.  The other act, Ultimate Painting, is  hugely popular, if you’re going of the projects of those involved (members of Mazes and Veronica Falls).  Their self-titled debut comes out on October 28th, and I’ve been streaming the new single for the last few days.  Take a listen to these two great tracks, and look for the records soon.

Popguns Bring Indiepop World Cup Tune + New Single

popThe Austin Town Hall posse has been pretty absorbed in this World Cup.  So far we’ve watched every match (even Nigeria vs Iran, sadly), but we also love a good dosage of indiepop, or at least I do.  Which is perfect, because the Popguns (UK jangle pop greats) have offered up this nice bit of a World Cup treat, which you can download below.  It’s a nice tribute to one of the greatest sporting events in the world.  Also, they’ve got a brand new Lovejunky 7″ coming out soon via Matinee Recordings, so I tossed that in so you’ll plan ahead.

Music Go Music Offer Up Disco Inspired Tune

musicYesterday this new track from Music Go Music popped up on the Internet, offering a look at the band’s new tunes.  This track offers two sides to the group, both which were on display on their last LP.  The song opens up with a dreamy quality, with a light wash of electronics hiding in the distance, but the song has an energetic groove once it gets going, picking up on the dance grooves made famous in every nod towards the 70s.  It’s a nice little spin for the track, getting you to stomp your feet as you flail about your bedroom. You can hear this song on the group’s new record, Impressions, which  will hit stores on August 19th via Thousand Tongues.

New Music from Honeyblood

honeyOne of the many acts that really impressed me during SXSW was Honeyblood, backed by the enthusiastic support of our friend Mike in Scotland.  They just released a new single off of their new album, which is a self-titled affair that’s set to be released on July 15th via Fat Cat Records.  For a duo, the ladies sure have quite a punch in their sound, although this tune recalls more of an early Metric sound…that’s a compliment in my book.  You get a glimpse of their ability to bring some noise on the back side of the song, as the guitars get distorted, but just don’t ignore the sugar-y quality of the vocals…despite the subject matter.  Hope you enjoy.

Bleached Kick Out Summer Jam

bleachedYou ready for summer fun? Well, then you better press play immediately!  This new track from Bleached encompasses everything perfect about summer, even going so far as the title, “For the Feel.”  It’s a song that holds a no-bullshit attitude, even keeping clean on the distortion and atmospherics, as other like-minded acts are wont to do.  It’s a pop rock track that chugs along spiritedly, giving you some added energy in your daily listening rotation.  It’s a song that might not make the girls new record, but is slated for a 7″ release via Dead Oceans on July 22nd.  So so good.

Another Track from The Skygreen Leopards

skygreenListening to the newest single from The Skygreen Leopards, it’s no surprise that the album had some studio work applied by Jason Quever of Papercuts fame.  It’s got that rich feeling you get with most of the music Jason’s worked on, including his own, which provides this whispering warmth that allows the listener to attach themselves to the songs internal melody.  This song has a nice steady pace, worked around the connection between the guitar lines and the piano pieces.  You’ll be able to check more from the group when they release Family Crimes on July 8th via Woodsist.

Music Premiere: Secret Cities Unveil Thumbs

Secret.Cities.2014.3We’re happily here today to premiere the brand new single from Secret Cities; it’s the third track to be released on their forthcoming LP, Walk Me Home.  Up until now, the band have largely crafted their work via email and phone calls, but the work within this record was composed in a studio in San Francisco, a first for the band.  Whatever the cause, the music they’ve crafted for their 3rd LP has left us with some of the most dynamic tracks they’ve composed to date.  “Thumbs” will have you swirling in the dark pop crafted by the band, accented by touches of strings and horns, weaving a web of musical bliss.  You can grab this new LP from Western Vinyl on June 24th.
