Hey You Danceateria Types! Check Out World’s End Press

WorldsEndPress_PhotobyMaclean_Stephenson_2.132234I’ve got no qualms with my adoration of the Australian music scene, though I tend to have a certain arena from the country that I fawn over.  This new tune by World’s End Press doesn’t necessarily fall into that category, but it’s something worthy of including on your Friday night playlist.  It’s an electronic dance tune, playfully constructed to emit the maximum amount of frivolity. It’s got pulsing grooves, nicely spun harmonies and a general attraction that invades your spirit.  Yep, Friday’s are for dancing.  Stay tuned, as the world will get more from the band when their debut album is released on October 4th.

Old School Feeling from Bottomless Pit

bottlessI don’t really know too much about Bottomless Pit, other than that a few of the guys were part of Silkworm back in the day.  That probably doesn’t mean too much now, as the band have forged a new sound, though I can see where it takes roots in sprawling rock n’ roll from a land before time.  The guitars wear some distortion on their sleeves, yet they also cut pretty sharply through one another.  While I appreciate the vocals in the context, the musicianship is what I’ve really been enjoying as I’ve listened to this song.  The band’s 3rd LP, Shade Perennial will be released on October 29th via Comedy Minus One.

New Hit from Geoffrey O’Connor of Crayon Fields

My adoration with Geoffrey O’Connor admittedly began with his work with geoffCrayon Fields, one of our favorite exports from Australia.  But, that being said, I’ve also really enjoyed the work he’s done solo, so it comes as no surprise that this new single is making my day.  His warm voice is placed over heavy electronic beats, alongside a female counterpart for the chorus.  Personally, I like the way his voice almost approaches a soft whisper; it’s one of the things that makes his music so interesting and enjoyable.  This is the first single that follows up his solo debut, Vanity is Forever (a must have). It’ll be released worldwide via Chapter Music.

Cate Le Bon Wins Again with New Single

cateI was amazed at the first live set I caught of Cate Le Bon a few years back.  I found her effort following that good too, but I get the feeling this new release is going to be pretty great.  On the latest single she takes a really laid back approach, allowing the groove to sit calmly in the foreground while her marvelous voice operates all around. Then there’s this angelic backing vocal that comes in just before the 3 minute mark; it’s just a beautiful touch.  Her latest effort Mug Museum will be out on November 12 via Wichita Recordings.

Enjoy The Black Tambourines

blacktambourinesNo. This is not the famed Slumberland act, Black Tambourine, rather it’s THE Black Tambourines, a UK act who I first caught wind of via Art Is Hard Records.  The label is releasing the band’s self-titled debut today, and I’m pretty sure it’s a band you won’t be disappointed if you just spend a little time with this track.  It’s a pretty fun track that gets your spirits up, offering ramshackle guitar pop that inevitably sinks under your skin.  Guitars cascade in soloing fashion while the drums bang hard in your ears.  I don’t see why you won’t love these guys.

Spritely Pop from Pale Spectres

palespectresI’m a few weeks late on this tune, but it’s just too good not to share with you all. I first caught wind of Pale Spectres when they had a release on Cloudberry Records, who apparently will be releasing their new EP featuring this very song.  The Paris act have easily won me over with this tune; it’s got a quick jangling guitar line that rings true to indiepop form, all the while providing you with a bubbling bass groove that encourages delighted toe-tapping.  It seems like a simple formula, but only a few bands can pull of executing a sound like this.

New Music from Corey of Terry Malts

coreyI definitely don’t hide the fact that I adore Terry Malts, who are about to have a great week.  But, on the side, their guitarist Corey Cunningham has something going on the side, which I’m quite enjoying.  It’s the limited Is This Really Really Real 7″, which is being put out by LogLady Records.  Sure, there’s that distorted darkness that the Malts often take on, but there’s a drum machine serving to propel the song forwards, whilst the guitar carefully accompanies Corey’s soft vocals.  I don’t see any reason why this track won’t gain a lot of steam this week; it’s a definite hit in my book!

Introducing: Mammoth Penguins

1078856_221432554673419_561104570_oMy obsession with Emma Kupa and everything she does continues.  After moving on from Standard Fare, she’s kept herself rather busy, adding another new band to her resume: Mammoth Penguins.  This new act has Emma and the group placing down crunchy guitar licks that are pretty catchy when matched with her perfect voice.  I find it hard to believe that people aren’t going to love these new tunes (of which there are 3).  I’m glad she hasn’t put down her axe, as I can’t ever seem to get enough of her voice.  We’ll keep you posted as more news comes about the group and a possible release, but for now you can’t deny the joy of this track.

Another Hit from Darren Sylvester

darrenFeel like we’re in need of something smooth as we head into the weekend, which is why this new single from Darren Sylvester is perfectly fitting.  While I think the musical element definitely falls in line with modern music trends, I like the way that Sylvester delivers his vocals. There’s a slight imperfection to his voice, which, when contrasted with the vocals, makes the song something that stands out from the ordinary.  You can find this track on his upcoming album, Off By Heart, which will hit the street on October 4th courtesy of the kindest people in the biz over at Chapter Music.

New (ish) Jam from Royal Headache

Royal HeadacheThose of you who’ve got the Matador Singles Subscription already have this wonderful tune from Royal Headache in your collection, like myself, but the band just recently put the jam up for download, and it’s well worth your time.  Unlike their self-titled LP, which you should already own, this tune isn’t quite as frantic, though it still has the slightly noisy attitude that makes the group so remarkable.  I love hearing Shogun smoothly operate at the beginning, then go all out near the end of this track.  If they keep writing great tunes like this, there’s no reason these guys can’t be bigger than anyone else out there. Bet on it.
