Chapter Music To Release New Record from The Ancients

the-ancients.2Seems like it’s been a good couple of weeks for our dear friends over at Chapter Music in Australia.  They let loose a few hits late last week, and they’re right back at it with the announcement that they’ll be putting out the new album from The Ancients. While the song warms to your ears slowly, the beauty that unfolds is something quite remarkable.  Be it the effortless pop vibe or the gentle delivery of the vocals, it’s a song that really deserves as much praise as you can offer.  It’ll be featured on Night Bus, which sees an October 18th release date.  Chapter deserves awards this year for sure.

Keep It Pop with The Hongs

hongsAs the title mentions, I’ve been in a pretty pop-centric mood today, trying to stay up on my toes.  So, in that vein, it’s only appropriate that I bring you a new track from The Hongs.  Sure, there’s a bit of a darker underbelly hiding in the song, but if you just stick with the vocals, you can tell that the Florida group definitely have aims to brighten your day.  Other such tracks from the band are currently being offered up on the group’s upcoming Pet Scans EP.  If you’re down to enjoy yourself today, give this track a spin.

New Music from Boogarins

boogarinsI don’t typically gravitate towards songs with languages other than English, as lyrics are pretty important to my listening experience. That being said, there’s something about Brazil’s Boogarins that made me gravitate towards their sound.  I can hear little elements of psych, but also a central focus on simple pop harmonies…those being portrayed primarily through the tones of the vocals.  The band has recently signed on with Other Music Recording Co. to release As Plantas Que Curam on October 1st.   Definitely interested to see where their music goes for an entire full length.

Playful Tune from Weaves

weavesMake sure you read that title carefully; I didn’t say Waaves!  This is Toronto’s Weaves, fronted by Jasmyn Burke, who’s previous work included fronting Rattail.  This new tune from the group is a bit like a more experimental version of Cursive’s Ugly Organ, with guitars fighting their way back and forth throughout the track, while an organ grinds in the background.  It’s definitely something a little bit different, which is why I’m digging the song.  The band’s official single will be out next week, but preview it here to get you in the mood for another great Toronto act.

Austin Spotlight: Mirror Travel

mirrortravelThose of you living in Austin, or who picked up the Casual Victim Pile compilation, might be wondering what happened to Follow That Bird.  Well, they opted for a name change, going with Mirror Travel.  This doesn’t mean the band’s sound has changed that much, still churning out rock and roll with a tinge of garage sound pushing things along.  You’ll be able to find this tune on the band’s new record, Mexico, which is being released by Modern Outsider on October 15th of this year.  History points towards a record filled with allusions to the Southwest, and fueled by hard work: can’t get here fast enough.

Fresh Pop from Cloud Control

Cloudcontrol_small_tbd_photographerSeveral years ago we threw a chilled out little SXSW party, and we were more than excited to have Cloud Control closing the night out for us over at Empire Automotive.  The band has taken some time releasing new material, but I’m completely okay with that, as this new jam is perfect for Monday morning.  It’s bright in every regard, be it the emotional pull or the sound itself.  It’s a track you won’t be able to get out of your head, and you won’t complain about that fact either.  They’ll be releasing their new album Dream Cave in the US on September 17th; we can’t wait.

Playful Pop from Arp

arpThe more I listen to the latest single for Arp, the more I just want to fall in love with the band; you know give myself over to their grandeur.  This track begins on the backbone of a nice little piano bounce, with airy vocals plodding along atop.  A distant guitar meanders through in the distance about midway through the track, leaving an emotional touch that really steps up the song’s level of achievement, emotionally speaking.  More, the new album from the group, will be available for everyone to enjoy on September 17th via Smalltown Supersound. Can’t wait.

Excited for New Crystal Antlers Tunes? We Are!

Crystal_Antlers_by_Pixie_MolBack in the day when we were a young blog, one of our first loves, nationally, was Crystal Antlers.  Sure, we had other bands we knew and love, but we caught on to Crystal Antlers, doing an interview, catching some live sets…and we love them.  Johnny Bell is one of my favorite front men, and his performances always made the show.  Now, they’ve got a new track that’s been up and jamming all day.  On first notice, I love the clarity of the vocals, which might not always have been the case.  Of course, it’s a CA song, so it blasts off into punk anthem, which we don’t mind one bit.  For now, all we have to go on is a great new tune, and promise of a new full-length in the future. We’re waiting patiently, sort of.

Seabirds Sign with Matinee Recordings

seabirdsSorry folks, but Matinee Recordings is on a huge role at the moment, releasing their 4th great single to the masses in a little over a week.  This time around, the label has picked up Seabirds to release the Real Tears 7″ this coming August.  On the title track, the tune opens with just vocals and strumming, but soon opens up to a more full band sound with a female vocal accompaniment and drums.  While that quick change-up is pretty special, I’m pretty stuck on the tone of the vocal itself; it’s gentle and familiar, fitting perfectly into the spectrum of great indiepop singing. Cheers to this.

Have Fun with Paper Lions

paperlionsIt’s one thing to write an artistic statement, it’s another thing entirely to just sit down and write a great pop song.  Personally, I think the latter is probably much more difficult, making the latest single from Paper Lions even more remarkable.  There’s a driving pulse to the song, aided by the rhythm section and electronics, with the lyrics bursting through the pop sensibility.  It’s hard to not just twist and turn with this tune blasting on high; it’s just a gem of a pop track.  The band will release their new album, My Friends, on August 20th via Fountain Pop Records.
