Club 8 Share Sucker Single

Admittedly, woke up dragging ass today; it’s the post standardized test blues all teachers get after forcing their students to take a meaningless exam. So, I need a pick me up and the springing notes from this fresh Club 8 track immediately did the trick. Both the rhythm and the guitars are off and running from the get-go, encouraging you to get just the slightest bit of a wiggle running through your body; if you give in, you’ll find that wiggle turns more into a full-blooded head-bob and toe-tap. The Swedish duo’s bread and butter is locking into that energy, then juxtaposing it with a bit of sugary sweetness, which you’ll certainly get when you hear the intermingling of the voices! Another hit!

Last Week’s Jams (2.12 – 2.16)

Sorry for taking off yesterday, but we’ll be honest, this site’s run by folks in the education field, so when we’re granted a rare day off mid-semester, you better believe we’re hanging with our families! But, here I am with hopefully a link to last week to set you up for this week. We covered perhaps too much music last week, getting 28 songs on the mark, and I was super stoked to hear that both Parsnip and Mammoth Penguins were back in business…with new albums heading our way. Plus, Kindsight gave us another sparkling single from their forthcoming LP via Rama Lama Records. I’m in on new Bolis Pupul, so we’ve got that, plus Unwed Sailor have a new release…there is maybe too much new stuff out there! Just take a listen!

Sucker Drop Seein’ God EP

You’ve really got to check out the new EP from Sucker; it dropped today courtesy of Cherub Dream Records, and though its brief, I can’t say enough positive things about it. In my ear, the band feels like they’re spinning the modern infatuation with noise and discord around demos from the Halo Benders. There’s this definite penchant for smashing guitar work, like on tunes such as “Drop,” but the vocals come across as unsettling, sort of making you tune your ears into the sound, drawing you deeper into the natural emotion of the work. When you get to “Lackluster,” it’s anything but, turning this mess of cacophony into a piece that’s dripping with natural beauty. Go give Seein’ God a listen right now!

Sucker Announce Seein’ God 7″

Sucker is Oakland’s answer to the career of Built to Spill; their songs are filled with these huge riffs that come crashing down like punishing waves, yet still hold tightly to a pop sensibility. They’re able to obscure the vocals behind the mix a bit with feedback and extemporaneous noise, forcing you to look inside the song for those little doses of sugar that your brain seeks out. Feels like the band is looking back on where indiepop and noise rock fused, and in that, I’ve got a huge smile on my face as I love this vibe. They’ll be releasing the Seein’ God 7″ via Cherub Dream Records on February 14th.
