Last Week’s Jams (4.8 – 4.12)

Apparently it’s that time of year when I just can’t help myself; I’m going full-time it seems, as we ran 28 brand new tracks this last week, plus some nods to albums we liked that dropped on Friday. We got some fresh premiere activity from the Wesleys and Max Blansjaar, then there were some recent favorites dropping in new stuff like Lightheaded, Neutrals and Autocamper. Me personally, I loved the new Gregor single, and that new CBVB plays into similar territory. This collection of songs, like my own catalog, is pretty random, though we always tend to aim for left of the left of the dial. Stream on.

Sunbeam Sound Machine Shares Creatures

Just last week we were sharing a track by Snowy, nodding to his production work the last few years in his downtime with Pop Filter and his own Snowy Band…and today, he pops up on the mixing duties for a new tune from Sunbeam Sound Machine. His 2019 album Goodness Gracious built a huge audience for Nick Sowersby, and while those tunes illustrated the broad brushstrokes he’d apply to his craft, this new track completely opens up a more meditative state. His vocals operate over steadied guitar lines, flirting with a dreamier nature, but mostly ringing out like some mysterious Wyld Stallyns song for the future. That lead guitar eventually takes the song for a walk, weaving in and out of the meditative ring, sinking the song further into this sort of ethereal landscape. Look for this on the new Soft Signal EP, out Friday.

Trippy Bit of Pop from Sunbeam Sound Machine

sunnyThis track is really beautiful. There’s this great warmth to the harmonies, and the construction is perfectly fitting.  I’m not sure how I feel about some of the warbling on the percussion, but I can put those feelings aside as I fall head over heels into this song.  There’s tons of little sonic touches, and the song seems to fade in and out of your speakers, creating this emotional pull that will find few detractors.  Sunbeam Sound Machine will release its debut album, Wonderer, via Dot Dash/Remote Control this November.
