Your Last Chance to Listen to the Brainstems

braOkay. Not really, but I’ve already posted about the Brainstems multiple times in the last few months, so I promise that I won’t do it again…at least until 2016. Their latest single has a different feel than some of the other tracks, though clearly in the same vein with other garage-y contemporaries. I like the way the vocals are recorded; it seems like this track is built perfectly for a live version where the audience is bouncing and screaming at the top of their lungs…or at least that’s how I imagine it. Don’t forget that their debut No Place Else comes out this Friday via Bad Diet HQ.

Another Rocker from The Brainstems

bsDiscordant garage rock is all the rage these days, which is the perfect place for The Brainstems to fit. But, every time I listen, I hear similarities, though they’re spun in an entirely different manner, elevating the group beyond your average fair. There’s a bratty touch to the vocals on this single, almost coming off like a cock-sure swagger. Interplay between the guitars creates a nice little stutter…all leading up to the breakdown at the latter half of the track that comes out like an evil bit of freak out. November 27th will see the release of the band’s new album, No Place Else, which should win the group man a fan.

Old School College Rock Feel from The Brainstems

10406970_679847652126005_3836665608930244905_nI might not have been in college at the time, but I think the early 90s had this incredible musical sensibility that’s often been traded for more hits or more shares. With that, it’s refreshing to hear acts like The Brainstems who seem to have gotten things exactly right twenty years down the road. There’s musicianship, but there’s also an indifference to mass consumption that allows for the group to ply their trade with straightforward rock n’ roll that makes you feel alive. This is the first tune to come from the group’s debut, No Place Else, which will be released on November 27th.
