Frog Release The Count

Over the last several years we’ve been covering the work of Frog, taken aback by their growth in popularity and growth as songwriters. Each track on the Count has surprised me in the best way, as the group almost seem to mix in their love of R&B and pop music into the absurd world of indie rock. I wanted to share the tune below from the new LP, as it drops in a bit of cleverness to a kind of swollen pop landscape; I love the profanity unleashed in the chorus just giving the style a bit of bravado. Each track on the new LP similarly offers you a new way to listen to your favorite genres, thus you reap the rewards of The Count officially being out in the world today! You can hear it all HERE.

Frog Share Spanish Armada Var XV

I continue to be impressed by the wayward wanderings of Frog and their consistent stretching of their song. After releasing a nod to a lovelorn Dracula, they’re back with another bit of storytelling, this time centered around the Spanish Armada. With all the historical references one would be likely to compare the group to early Decemberists, though I think the way the song structures work here, the group’s music feels much more grounded in a kind of garage jam. The sound of the drums and the falsetto-stretched vocals just offer a sort of sonic push into a band that continues to just play out what feels right in their own world. there’s nothing quite like Frog. This glimpse into the Count is another reason to keep the forthcoming LP on your radar; they drop the album on September 19th.

Frog Announce The Count

If you have not joined the growing mass of fans following Frog, then today is hopefully the day that the project turns your head. They’re a prolific outfit operating out of New York, and as of now, remain an undefined outfit. Are they indie rock? Is it art rock? Where are they headed? That’s the mystery, and we’re the recipients of their continuous exploration of the confines of pop music. This new single operates with a heavy bit of keys as the backbone, throwing a falsetto that nears classic R&B pipes roaming free atop the skeletal set of pulsing beats and rhythm. It’s a new jam for the masses, a final Dracula themed masterpiece titled The Count, which drops on September 19th.
