I first encountered J.E. Sunde through his previous outfit, the Daredevil Christopher Wright, but he looks to have a more careful touch on his new solo outing. The first minuteor so iscarefully introducing the song’s style, with a frolicking percussion and layered strings adding to the strummed guitar work. While the song’s percussive element often feels playful, the track itself has this solemnity to it, aided by the vocals of Sunde. He doesn’t push himself, and the notes just seem to flow from his mouth in a matter-of-fact manner. Now I Feel Adored will be released on March 3rd via Cartouche Records.

jesundeI’m finally getting a breather after all this World Cup watching (haven’t missed a game), so I wanted to relax a bit, which is why I wanted to run this track from JE Sunde, who works in The Daredevil Christopher Wright.  I’m really stuck on how great his vocals are, but the intricate touches such as flute, piano and non-traditional percussion really push the song into another realm…it’s perfect for letting your mind drift off.  This track will feature on his album, Shapes That Kiss the Lips of God, and it’ll be released by Cartouche Records on July 15th.

New Single (Split 7″) from The Daredevil Christopher Wright

Earlier this year The Daredevil Christopher Wright release The Nature of Things; I thought it was a solid effort that slowly made its way into my playing rotation, though the band received minimal press.  They return now with a split 7″ with their friends Cuddle Magic, and I hope that this is the release that brings them more interest; the song definitely warrants my approval. You’ll find a quiet track, moving along slowly, but there’s this underlying melody that is wholly captivating.  If you’re looking for something that will allow you to get lost within your soul, then play this tracks as many times as you can. I’ll see you on the other side.

New Single (+ Album Stream) from The Daredevil Christopher Wright

I’m absolutely loving the new record from The Daredevil Christopher Wright, a Eau Claire three-piece who’ve created an eclectic sound akin to the likes of Here We Go Magic or Fleet Foxes.  Their album combines elements of folk, group harmonies, but there’s also a slightly experimental bent–though not as much because the group wanted to focus on the songwriting on the record for performance purposes (I commend that!). If you’re sitting at work, wondering what the next record you’re going to HAVE to buy is, then you need to take a listen to The Nature of Things, which hits stores next week.
