SCHOOL Share The End Video

Our pals over at Geographie are stoked to announce the debut album from SCHOOL, dropping early in the new year. That said, you don’t have to wait too long, as the group have a single they’d love to squeeze into your rotation today: “The End.” There are really two pieces to this song. On one hand, you get modern bedroom pop, albeit spun through a bit of a disaffected youth lens. Then, you flip it over and there’s some grungy chorus that opens up on its back half to churn the tune into a sprawling pop number. Rinse and repeat, and you can certainly hear why we’re stoked with what the band are offering. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more about that new LP.

Chime School Share the End Video

This is not a post about vegan chili, though if you want to read a great recipe from Chime School‘s Andy, plus read our interview from last week, you can jump HERE. What is this about then, you ask? Well, it’s the third and final single from the forthcoming LP, and a continuance of growth we’ve heard in the band’s sound. Those Californian jangles are crisp and cyclical, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit of nostalgia for the Lucksmiths; the vocals have this soothing quality, sinking you right into your favorite lounge chair as you drift into the happiest sleep around. Feels as if this one would be the perfect accompaniment to your favorite cheesy rom-edy, as everyone’s left smiling in the end. Be sure to get your copy of The Boy Who Ran the Paisley Hotel, dropping on August 23rd via Slumberland Records.

Islands Share The End Lyric Video

If you’re looking for a fitting way to end your album, why not go the route of Islands and simply title the last track, “The End?” It’s the perfect summative statement, but one that also thematically ties into the band’s sentiment, especially after years in the indie game for Nick Thorburn. Thematically it reflects on the end of record, but also the end of a journey? Were you happy? Did you want to go back? Where do we step back in time? Musically, the song’s a classic Thorburn gallop, with rolling drums and Nick’s distinctive vocal delivery riding atop as if he’s just won a great war. And as we reflect on Islands, and what came before it, I’m hoping Nick is happy, as he’s continued to leave us with songs that always bring a smile to our faces. Look for What Occurs on June 21st.

Parrot Dream Share Final Single of 2021, The End

I’ve really enjoyed the work Parrot Dream have put into things over the last few singles, and all the way back to their last major release, and it seems they aim to end the 2021 year with one final gem to seduce you into their world. “The End” actually begins opening up on this cavernous emptiness, punctuated by a sampled drum and a thumping pulse. Little notes dance across the horizon, careful not to interfere with the rhythmic nature of the song itself. This is where Christina Appel lets her voice shimmer, calling to the listener like a siren, beckoning. A careful ear will hear the pulse speed up at times, and the cavern is filled with various notes that seem destined to intoxicate. And then its all wrapped up, because ultimately, we’ve come to “The End.”

0710top5coverAdmit it: you have the attention span of a coked out squirrel. You don’t want to hear jam bands, experimental noise bands, or ambitious concept albums. You’re a 21st Century, internet-streaming, iPod-shuffling, next-button-pressing, son of a bitch.

I forgive you. Yet I must insist that you occasionally look to songs stretching beyond that holy 3 minute mark to satisfy your fickle rock and roll urges.  Here are 5 Long Songs Worth Your Time.  Follow the jump for the full list.
