Matt McClure Share’s Heather’s Feathers + Drops New Albums

Listening through the new Matt McClure record is a real treat; it requires a full on dive into the whole record to really digest the whole of McClure’s intent. But, with that in mind, I’m going against the grain and tossing out this single that I feel does a decent job of summarizing the vibe. To me, it feels very much akin to the Pacific Northwest, though I can certainly see some similarities in the lyricism drawing Silver Jews comparison. There’s an underbelly of psychedelia working too, ringing in the distance as the track echoes in your ears. The mix feels really perfect here, so if its calling to you, be sure to check out all of In Situ, available today!

Matt McClure Shares Magazine Street

For all the creativity that is being pushed out in the indie scene nowadays, I do really miss the wittier bits of pop that you’d get from wordsmiths like a David Berman, weaving mundane existence into catchy tracks that bounce in your head…just like Matt McClure. He once fronted the Figurants (which I suggest you check out), but recently has been going it on his own, and there’s a new LP on the way with this track below. For me, you get the best bits of Matt’s work, offering up those clever lyrical lines, backed by really solid bedroom pop vibes. It’s that sort of everyman-bedroom-pop, where we all think we could pull it off, but only someone as talented as McClure can actually do it with substance. Recurring Orphans, the new LP, should be out later this year!

Last Week’s Jams, Today (11.8 – 11.12)

We’re here with your weekly addition of Last Week’s Jams, with a slight little spin on things this week. For starters, there were certainly some jams on our pages, so we hope you’ll revisit…may I recommend the Crabber record again? Plus, you’ve got the new hits from Slumberland Records (who had a killer week in our eyes). And, in the end, I threw in a couple of tracks from shows we were able to see last week, or the week before, just as a reminder for us when we listen to our own playlists! Listen to some songs, and have a really great week friends!

The Figurants Share Benjo Video

I love stumbling into a band like The Figurants, something that takes you down a wormhole of their catalog, falling further and further in love. Their latest single “Benjo” has all these little nuanced moments that I can’t help but feel charmed to hear. I love the twists and turns of the guitars, slightly twangy, cascading into the horizon. The matter-of-fact vocal delivery is charming, and more so by the deep tonal quality of Matt McClure’s voice. They seem like a band that you kind of keep to yourself, only sharing with those closest to you, or those who you feel need a little extra charm in life. So here I am, sharing their new tune with you, my friends.

The Figurants Share Horrible Horses

I kept thinking hard upon how to describe this new tune from The Figurants. How could I explain to you my adoration for this track without using the every day pigeonholing techniques? It’s tough, but I feel like the band reminds me of that one guy everyone worked with who wrote songs while hanging out on break smoking cigarettes; it’s just on the edge of arty, but teetering along the line of neediness. It definitely makes sense that the band call Seattle home, as there’s a certain lineage to the Northwest I hear here. Is nerdcore a thing? Can we make it happen? Whatever, this song rules. You’ll find it on the band’s new album, Indoor Words.
