Last Week’s Jams (5.12 – 5.16)
If you just look at last week’s collection in our Album Streams post, you can see it was certainly a busy week out there; there were no fewer than six albums that I adored, whether it was new Gotobeds or High Water Marks or Artificial Go, there was plenty to browse through. But, that was just the albums, and didn’t even cover the great music that popped up on the single side of things. I mean, there was new Jeanines, Ryli, Lightheaded and Whitneys Playland...all of which should have you cranking up your speakers. Some good Austin (and adjacent love) for acts like Little Mazarn, San Gabriel, Gustave Ochoa and Adrian Quesada, so doing our part on the local scene. There’s just too much good stuff out there, thus, you’re required to press play and space out for an hour.
There’s really so much great music out today that it’s impossible to bounce between all and so you’re going to have to dig into the mixture below and really figure out what you love the most. Since it’s raining great records, I put some word below so that maybe you can get a feel of what you might find if you press play. One third of the year is behind us now, and so we’re getting towards that moment when arbitrary best of 2025 lists began to pop up, but we’re keeping our eyes on the prize, focusing on new music, however it comes. There were some definite bonus tunes coming our way, like new Stereolab, as they prep for their forthcoming LP. Slumberland continued their great 2025 by announcing a new Autocamper LP (along with Safe Suburban Home). Personally, I was really excited to hear that Far Caspian has a new one on the way, as I loved the single shared this week. Perennial favorite acts also dropped new singles, so you’ll hear ditties from The High Water Marks, the Beths, Provoker and the Serfs. Give a little listen and start making your own mid-year list!

Well folks, I’m back in the game full time, teaching, coaching and all that jazz. So, I didn’t hit my previous mark of nearly 30 songs in a week. But, we still had some really great stuff on the site, so it’s organized below in its usual playlist fashion. One of the best group’s in the game, Feeling Figures, bounced out with a rad new single, plus our old pal Caroline Says also announced her first LP in some years. We gave a shout out to some great records by Fake Fruit, Chime School, Hits and more (and yes, I missed Wut and the Softies). Oh, and new jams from UV-TV and High Water Marks closed out the week, so I guess you could say, it was a pretty good time!

Felt like we covered a whole lot of territory last week, which was mostly me just working super hard to keep myself occupied over summer vacation. There were so many great songs that I felt people overlooked in the big indie world, such as the new stuff from Wireheads and Big Blood. Or maybe you can go on with the old dependable from Balmorhea, the Clienteleor High Water Marks. Going back through, definitely appreciating stuff like the Sheeps track and the Chopper tune too, so you’ve got plenty to be excited about when you burn through this playlist. Get on it.
