Emily Hines Offer UFO

I was completely unaware of Emily Hines until she signed up with Austin label Keeled Scales, but I’ll own up to falling under her spell as she readies the release of These Days. This song alone has so much of the delicate moments that make Hines work intoxicating; it opens up for nearly a minute on what honestly felt like a field recording, lost in history. Around the 54 second mark, the recording seems to change, with a metronomic beat and a little recording fuzz blanketing Emily’s voice, all the while little brushstrokes continue to add more layers of enchantment to the piece. She seems to have mastered this fragility that seems potent and personal all at once. Really looking forward to These Days, out on August 1st.

Emily Hines Releases All of Our Friends Single

Since being picked up to work with Keeled Scales for her forthcoming LP, Emily Hines has definitely been growing in our listening rotation, as I’ve definitely enjoyed the two early singles from the album. With her latest single, you can hear Emily beginning to stretch her legs and settle into her sound. There’s this quieted intimacy in the production of the instrumentation, with listeners able to hear fingers sliding up and down the strings. However, there’s this exuberance and childish freedom in her voice too, which was the highlight for me, hearing her folk leanings and taking them to a broader playing field of accessibility. These Days will be out on August 1st, and will definitely get some playing time at my house.

Another Fresh Emily Hines Track

Back in February, we brought you news that the legendary folks over at Keeled Scales had picked up Emily Hines for their roster, and today we get to present you with a fresh taste of her forthcoming These Days LP (perhaps an ode to Jackson Browne). It’s really hard for me to decipher what I love most about this tune, as there’s so much to appreciate, despite being fairly bare-bones in its presentation. Hines’ delicate vocals are certainly a draw for me, as there’s this odd little whisper effect on some of the notes that’s chilling in the best sense. But, there’s also these perfect arrangement additions that are captivating; you’ll hear this warped ambiance swelling beneath the surface, and the drum work has the precise pacing this song needs. Be sure to grab the new album before its August 1st release date.
