I’ve been covering Das Kope for a hot minute, and he quietly dropped another tune online while we were hustling out at SXSW. While there’s that same dreamy wash over synth beats, it’s restrained for the first 45 seconds; once that volume jumps up you can hear comparisons to other pop constructionists like Washed Out. I do love how his voice is recorded as a whisper throughout, drawing the listener into the track, which can then turn jarring when the volume blasts…it’s a nice little switch. Feel like Das Kope is once again on the right track, so listen to see if you’re on my side here.

Pleased to Meet You: No One Mind

No One Mind grew out of previous projects, The Love Language and Birds of Avalon, so the songwriting is familiar, though the sound is entirely new. There’s a brooding sensation in the tones of the guitar/bass as the song pushes forward, taking on a tone of bleakness that relates to the path that led to the formation of the group. I love the way the song fades out with a cool vocal repetition that starts just before the 3 minute mark. Looking forward to what the band brings to the table when they release their eponymous debut on September 9th via Third Uncle Records.

New Adam Busch Single

Fans of indie rock should recognize Adam Busch, though perhaps by his work in The Curious Digit or Manishevitz, and not by his name. But, what’s important is that despite all the accolades and fans over the years, Busch is preparing his first effort on his own. Our understanding is that he took off to spend some time with his family, but always busy as a songwriter, he got the itch to go at it again…studying varying styles. You can hear it in this song to, be it from the chords working atop one another (seemingly) to the overall production that comes via the crashing drums and his vocal delivery. It brings a refreshing cleanse to the landscape of folk-influence indie rock. I expect really ornate beauty from his album, River of Bricks, when it’s released on November 13th.
