Touch Girl Apple Blossom Announce Graceful

I’m a longtime champion of Austin’s Touch Girl Apple Blossom, and we’ve been patiently waiting to inform you of their signing to one of my personal favorite labels, K Records/Perennial. The legendary label has had their hands in some great indiepop, especially of late, and TGAP knock it out of the park on their debut single here. They drop in dueling guitar lines instantly, letting the jangles rip before Olivia enters the scene with her vocal performance; I also don’t want to overhype the angular guitar notes, as the group has a ridiculously solid rhythm section that builds the infectious nature of their work beneath the surface. Olivia’s vocals are picture perfect too; she has this great knack to sit within the rhythm, bouncing her syllables in unison, but these slight vocal twists like the tonal change at the 40 second mark just melt you to the floor. We couldn’t be happier for the group, and we’re looking forward to grabbing Graceful on May 15th. Also…they’ll be touring through March with Good Flying Birds, so keep your eyes out for a show near you!

Show Preview: The Umbrellas @ Mohawk (6.6)

Before it gets too hot, there are a handful of really great shows about town, like this one featuring San Fransisco’s The Umbrellas. For starters, local band Touch Girl Apple Blossom kick the night off, having just announced a set in Cali with our friends in Heavenly/Swansea Sound; they also dropped this great tune last week: HERE. They’ll be followed by On Being an Angel, who always put on a nice set. Then, come the Umbrellas; they blow into town on the back of their most excellent Fairweather Friend LP (Slumberland Records). Operating with various vocalists, they can charm with the best of the jangle poppers or turn it on a knife’s edge and deliver something more dangerous, while still offering just a hint of sweetness. If you want tickets, grab ’em HERE.

Last Week’s Jams (1.29 – 2.2)

If you were anywhere near the musical interwebs last week, then you were given a lot of gifts; there was new music from the likes of Six Organs of Admittance, Camera Obscura, Ducks Ltd and more…all of which feature in this rendition of Last Week’s Jams. It was a pretty solid week for the ATX too, with new music from Water Damage, Holy Wire, Broken Gold…plus a Touch Girl Apple Blossom video from their latest EP. Bonus points go to acts like Savak, Cool Sounds and Torrey for adding further joy to my listening rotation. We also mentioned some Bandcamp recommendations for True Green, Flight Mode, TVXP and Fuvk. Kick in below for all the sweet jams we’ve got in one easy listening spot.

Touch Girl Apple Blossom Share Sidewalk Video

One of the under the radar gems that I didn’t discover until a bit late in the game was the debut EP from Touch Girl Apple Blossom, and they were right in my own backyard (metaphorically, not actually!). This Austin quartet sounds a bit like they’ve taken all the charm from acts such at Juliana Hatfield and Diet Cig, borrowed the hooks, then run away to pile a little bit of grit and atmosphere to the mixture. It’s sort of like an amalgam of pop and weirdo, which is everything I absolutely love. So, now that I’m all over the band, I wanted you to be too, which is why I bring you their fresh video for “Sidewalk,” with a reminder their EP is now available via 7″!
