Dreamy Swing Pop from Divino Nino

divinoBy now, you should be paying attention to what Native Sound is doing. They’re a new-is label, but they’ve got a pretty solid roster, including Divino Nino. The band has this dreamy swing feel to it, though not with a dance hall attitude…more like that weird kid dancing in the club by him/herself. The group has some Hispanic influences, so you can hear a little bit of tropicalia leaking into their sound, though you’ll also be really into it if you imagine Little Joy getting into a fistfight with Mac Demarco. This track will appear on the band’s new album, The Shady Sexyfornia Tapes, which will be released on May 13th.

Enjoying This Space Raft Track

spaceIf this new Space Raft song didn’t have some of the touches of modern indie rock, I’d swear that it’s a tune coming off the Almost Famous soundtrack; it has that classic rock vibe, though it’s been switched up and turned out in a new fashion. Of course that style just happens to focus on the hooks of pop sensibility, filling it in with great melodies and a distinctive voice. I’ll be interested to hear what the whole of their new album sounds like; Rubicon will be released on April 15th via Dusty Medical Records.

Can Metz Live Up to the Hype

metzHonestly, Metz was a hot commodity a few years back, and I feel like their resurgence is perfectly timed.  I’m weaning myself off (a little) from the mild folky tunes of Winter doldrums, and looking forward to getting my rock on, so this is fitting.  Musically, the band’s as dangerous as they’ve been before, though there’s a bit of a change in the vocals that’s slightly new.  To me, this track feels like a post-hardcore blast of rock, which is perfectly fine, but I’m interested to see what the rest of Metz II sounds like; it’s being released by Sub Pop on May 5th…and for the record, I’m buying into the hype.

Smooth Dancing with Dutch Uncles

ducthovensI wanted to post this song.  As I’m sitting here working, recapping the day, my old lady says “Is that Hot Chip?”  That sort of sums up the work that the new Dutch Uncles have released this week, though I think there’s a smoother polish to the craftsmanship of their electro-pop.  It’s not filled with these hit-you-over-the-head beats, but these subtle little electro pulses.  The group announced they’ll be releasing a new album, O’Shudder, via Memphis Industries on February 24th. Enjoy your easy-listening.

New 7″ Coming from Dick Diver

artworks-000079121481-wi9lee-t500x500Australia’s Dick Diver have long been one of my secrets, but it seems that they’re getting their deserved accolades; it will only continue once people spend time listening to their latest single.  It’s the A-Side to their New Name Blues 7″, which is being released by Fruits and Flowers.  I think the guitar work on this track is some of their best, while the craftsmanship still revolves around their usage of male/female vocal interplay.  If you didn’t listen to their record, Calendar Days, which was on Chapter Music, then perhaps this will convince you where you went wrong.  Give a spin.

Fresh New Music from Let’s Wrestle

lets_wrestle_web_1Since 2010, Let’s Wrestle have been high on our radar.  We were even fortunate to have them play one of our SXSW parties that year, which featured other great acts like Surf City and The Crayon Fields.  The band have been largely under the radar for awhile, but they’re new effort seems to take on a slightly different approach to things.  Where the band once pushed forward with jangling guitar chords at a frenetic pace, you’ll now find a relaxed setting for the group to really work on their craft, slowing things down quite a bit.  It’s hard not to like these guys; you can find their next LP on Fortuna Pop sometime in 2014.[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/121021368″ params=”color=ff6600&auto_play=false&show_artwork=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
