Women deserve to stand alongside their male counterparts in the front of the indie music community, but let’s face it, this isn’t always the case, unfortunately. This is why the Typical Girls Compilation is so vital to the scene, or to the world. Emotional Response is releasing this album, filled with 16 female focused bands, playing music that should establish them as anything but “typical.” They’ve uploaded two sample tracks from PRIMETIME and Earth Girls, so I’ve got those below streaming for your listening pleasure. I like the PRIMETIME track for it’s grittiness, compiled with its self-deprecation. Earth Girls spin it differently, blasting through with catchy indiepop that will make any listener clamor for more. When Earth Girls first came into my ears via the Typical Girls compilation (Emotional Response) I was really excited with their sound, and that’s not slowing now that the band has unleashed this new single from their new album. This number blasts off rather quickly with a furious pace from both drums and guitar. I like the playful tone of Liz Panella’s voice; she sounds like she’s having fun while blasting through this song. Wanderlust will be released next Friday, August 12th, via Grave Mistake Records.
