Tan Cologne Get Trentemoller Remix

The latest album from Tan Cologne, Unknown Beyond, has only been available for a few weeks now, but having made a connection with Trentemoller, the legacy of their new record carries on with the aforementioned artist’s reworking of album closer “In Resin.” For the first few minutes, it sticks pretty near the original mix, though it strips some of the ambiance for a more delicate piano line that offers the song a bit of rhythm. Once the original time stamp is reached around 2:44, the song begins to take off, allowing Trentemoller to explore the negative space of the track. The piano holds the song stationary, the vocals get wrapped again and again, but the ambient notes sparkle in the distance, building a deep texture that’s sure to fascinate. When listening through the newest Tan Cologne single, I can’t escape the feeling of being in this dark fairy-land, somewhere akin to the Dark Crystal. Each little note seems to kind of hang, like some bit of magic dust, or in the case here, a bit of ash falling from the skies. And, the more I think on that, the more it feels like a spiritual seance with me dancing around a campfire, my shadow trouncing upon some desert backdrop. Interestingly, the vocals almost seem like they’re purely instrumental, building in texture to the track has this fluttering movement. They release Unknown Beyond on June 20th via Labrador Records.

Former Austin resident Lauren Green has been working with Marissa Macias for several years now, and each time they drop a new Tan Cologne song or record, you can hear them twisting and knifing through new territory, embracing whichever way the sonic winds blow.
